A manual will more than an auto. There is a slight time delay between the TB closing and the MAF seeing no flow so the injectors still squirt the fuel and it will not have enough O2 to burn completely in the cylinder or exhaust system. So when it hits the fresh air the fuel is hot it will auto ignite.

If you want to blue flames run some AvGas.

It definitely will when you shift gears or you slow down. It does but not a bunch.

My GSX on a straight pipe did that often. Also, notice in that video, they have the carbon on the bumper right above the exhaust. THat is very comon on test pipes, black carbon EVERYWHERE!

it jsut builds up faster with the straight pipes in...

i have alot of build up on my nismo exaust.. i think it is mostly because of the angle of the tips... the buildup is on the bottom..

ill take a pic when i get a new digi cam

I don't think that the Nismo will shoot flames because of the way the exhaust has to curve around like the stock muffler, same with the Borla. It would probobly only work with a canister style exhaust like the Injen or some N1's....just my opinion you can let us know.

Id imagine youd have to be running a bit rich to get it though, no?

and not for nothin, but your cars silver, its gonna be tough getting the color coordinating flames like in 2F2F... bummer.

har har har ares...

if im gonna be driving around cali with no cats... id like to know how not to drive my car to prevent any flames from popping out... last thing i need is a cop pullin me over and me slowing down and farting pop's of fire and getting hit with that fine...

i think the nismo / borla will still spit flames... since when has a curve in a pipe stopped something? specially when they are mandrel bent curves

Default If......

1. if there is raw fuel in the exhaust
2. the fuel is above the combustion point when it exits the pipes
3. there is O2 in the air at the end of the tips

When those 3 conditions are met(heat + fuel + O2) it will cause a flame, might not see it during the day, but at night your shades might be handy

The exhaust can look like a corkscrew it's not going to change what will happen when the hot fuel hits the air. Cats will take out the raw fuel but that is the only thing that will keep the flames away if you are running hard. If you are just driving around and not at WOT then you might not be rich enough to cause a flame. I always see when cars are "playing"

wide open throttle=WOT

yea, my MR2's would spit flames constantly (both were catless-the fast one was a little richer with no cats or mufflers) it ws fun. scared the hell out of people. it also helps if you are turboed to blow flames (runs a little richer than NA usually)

but it usually onlyhappen on 5-4 or 4-3 downshifts or fast upshifts when at WOT.

i could also shoot flames on command when i was running the 2 step for lauching (loud popping followed by blowing flames. I have a video of it somewhere.......)
