Default Install time/money spacer

I just dropped my car off at my garage to get the 5/16th motodyne spacer put on, he called me back and said its gonna take over 4 hours and $400. I laughed at him and dont think Ill ever go back there. How long does it take? Roughly? 1 hour to two is what i hear.

he probably read the instructions and got intimidated by his unfamiliarity with the VQ engine. my trusted mechanic looked at them and said .. wow man, this looks like it is going to take around 3 hours, where did you hear 1 hour, to 2, tops?

I told him to just give it a whirl anyways and he finished up in an hour and a half (including testing etc).

if you don't trust em, don't let em install it, but it's common for someone unfamiliar with the part/engine to assume it will take longer. still, quoting at 4 hours and 400$ I would tell them I'll find someone competent. even DIY'ers seem to get it installed in 2 hours.

I know, i agree. Id do it myself but I dont have the tools or the time. I just called a place that specializes in imports and they knew exactly what i was referring to and said 1.5 hours at the most. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I did it myself and I'm slow. It took me 2+ hours not including the time I spent changing spark plugs. If it was just the spacer it would have taken a lot less time. Most anyone else would take a lot less time.

It doesn't take much in the way of tools. Get yourself a couple 6 packs and find some friends with tools. With a couple sets of hands it would be a quick process.

$400 is a joke. It's not too hard to install. I have a write-up with pics in the Engine section somewhere...

Did one yesterday in about 1 1/2 hours. Easy install, take your time and you will be fine.

Took me about an hour to do in my driveway, and that was the first thing I ever did to my car.

anyway op you will need a inch lb. wrench though to torque the plenum down to specs after for a heads up, or a nut driver will work but i recommend the wrench

same one i have...u dont even really need to put the valve part in if u dont want to...it is just after u install the spacer u need to cut one hose and insert it in and then clamp it on both sides, it is so u can flip the vavle from open to close and either allow or deny coolant to the plenum for a said extra 1 horse or something, but it prolly does keep things cooler. i put mine in when i did the spacer and like i said took like an hour for everything

No. I had the same thing. I won mine at Zdayz in 2008 and installed it as soon as I got home. It was my first modification ever, and my buddy and I (who was there to basically to keep me company) knocked it out really quick. Just follow the directions exactly as they are given and you'll breeze though it.
