Default Hydrolock...

It's been raining like crazy in CA lately and it made me start thinking about Hydrolocking.

So I just got the K&N Typhoon Cold Air Intake (good deal on ebay)

Do you guys think this intake is safe as far as Hydrolocking?

The thing is, this pipe is actually 2 pipes so the snorkel is just feeding the air box with colder air from outside.

What has been your experience (for those that have it)?

If you look on this page it says that this design does not allow for chance of ingestion of water causing hydro-lock.

if you submerge the car under water and the tube sucks up water, it's a possibility.

I'm thinking that the tube is not sucking (its not connected to the intake), it's only having air push in rather than pulled in. If that makes any sense.

Also what if you cut holes in the bottom of the air box so if water does make it all the way in, it has a way out...

if the filter is in an inclosed box by the looks of it, then the engine is sucking air from the plenum and this suction transfers thru the plenum to the snorkel, so the snorkel is sucking as well.. sure there are losses and its not sucking as much but its still sucking

please search since this subject has been discussed numerous times since 2003. plus if you are so worried about it then cancel your order on the intake and leave the OEM one on

No intake is immune. Even the stock system can suck in water. Just be smart in how you drive.

I never said I was worried about it.

I'm trying to make it safer, thats all...

I knew someone would say "just don't get it" lol

It's just a matter of making things better/safer.

i have the same intake! you wont have a problem with the extension tube! the only chance for hydrolocking your car is if you submerge the car and the water reaches the filter, that extension tube is no problem.....

I installed the intake in 2004. Did plenty of write ups and photos. Search is your friend.
