The temperatures dont rise nearly as much on the stock box. It will go up some due to the plastic getting heat soaked from the back side, but more importantly, it does not ingest hot engine compartment air. All the air going in through the filter is ambient temperature air.

I use the stock box on my Z and G. Changing out the paper filter on a regular basis is all it needs. And it will keep your engine internals a lot cleaner too.

I've found the after market intakes let in a lot of dirt. I've opened up countless plenums to do spacer and MREV installations. And I've made some clear observations:

All the clean plenums I've opened up used the stock intake.
All the dirty plenums (caked up with thick oily mud inside of them) had some kind of aftermarket intake being used.

Based on my experience, on the VQ engine, aftermarket intakes lose power and let in a lot of dirt. That's why I don't use them.

^^ So i bought a JWT for not good reason.... ?

That sucks. Sounds good though.

You guys mention the 06 air box being the best, does an 06 box fit on an 03 Z?

I like the work you guys do. Looking forward to a 5/16 spacer and your new res pipes.

This info should be in a sticky mods.

Will a K&N filter in a stock box also let dirt in the engine in the same way? Stock paper filer is the safest?

Anyone interested in a like new JWT PopCharger?

^They work great for sound enhancement and look good under the hood... but I guess it depends on your priorities.

EDIT: I wouldn't use a K&N filter. They do let in a lot of dirt. And they don't dyno any better than a clean paper filter.

Default SC dynos

Has anyone seen/done a dyno test for the Cosworth on a supercharger application? gabe3d has done an excellent test on a stroked NA application, and I have seen dynos for low and high boost turbo applications. But not for S/C?

Gabe nice write up. I just installed tomei cams 264-10.5 lift along with valve springs and headers. I thought the car was going to pick up at least 7whp-10whp. I was very dissapointent with the results i lost alot of power on the mid range. i will be posting the dyno sheets results here today.

Not sure if you saw this or not but the first dyno is of the car with Tomei V2 headers and 264 10.5 cams.
