Default Largest single pipe exhaust on a 350Z?

Ive been doing quite a bit of research on single exhausts and i think i would choose a singe over a true dual like the HKS for instance.

The main reasons being...
Half the cost of a dual exhaust set up
Quite a bit lighter
Supposedly provides 98% of the flow a dual exhaust would (depending on your set up), which brings me to the actual question i have for everyone...

The single 3" exhaust is very popular but would it benefit the Z to go bigger?
And what would be the cut off point for a NA vs a FI 350?
I have also learned that a oval shaped pipe is sometimes used to increase the overall flow without eliminating ground clearance.

On with the educated opinions and hateful threats....
Never know what reply you will get.

I have a 5" straight pipe from the headers back. I lost a lot of power, because I didn't do research to find out how a larger diameter exhaust can actually hurt me more than help.

3" is common. Look at the MotorDyne single here: www.motordyneengineering.com An oval tip is not ideal.
