Not sure but Spiral Wound Technology sounds cool. This is some sort of technique to eliminate cracking? Instead of giving us incomprehensible jargon, how about a 36 month warranty against crackling?

Do not know about smog requirements in your state.

I'm not sure what the difference is, but no HFC's will pass smog.

That all depends. There are people out there running them and Passing the Smog test.
The Spiral Wound Technology is just the way the Cat is made. It has nothing to do with Passing smog test. It helps create a HFC.

+1, some states are more lenient than other...

but OP since you're in Socal, you will not pass...California has the strictest, **** tests for smog...you will probably fail visual (since they require OEM cats in this state) and even if you get past that the metallic cats just don't perform enough to pass California smog...

Since different states have different rules for smog, its technically true that certain HFC's will pass smog...in more lenient states...

Now if the HFC's says it will pass in California, then let me know because I want it...

Also, when you check out the websites for most HFC's they will say they are for off road use only, or maybe at best 49 state compliant; guess which is the 50th state it isn't compliant with?

I can promise you that California is the 50th state that the Berk is non-compliant with...

As for tuning your car so you can pass smog, I suppose you can try tuning you car lean (I actually briefly thought about it for my setup) but do you really want to drive a car tuned lean? Risky for the engine...
