who has gutted their cats

I woudnt recommend this unless you plan on buying some again before inspection time rolls around. Not worth it. Get test pipes if you want to get rid of the cats

all you gotta do is buy 40dollar O2 simulators and then you can gut ur cats, and you wont throw a single code. I passed emissions with my camaro and it has longtubes, no cats, heads and cam, 40dollar O2 Simulators from summit will do the trick, I gutted my sisters cats and put those on and her "SES" light went right off.

You don't need them on the Z. A million people have gutted cats or test pipes or long tubes. No lights. A couple went on then off. Mine never came on. I don't think the CEL is why he is asking the question.
actually I gutted mine a few months ago and have had a (cel) the whole time I've reset my computer two or three times and checked everything over but it still stays on I am ordering the 02 sim's from casper electronics.

when you gut something you take out the insides. i would rather buy some pipes than ruin my cats rendering them useless when the inevitable days comes when I will need some on the car. cats are WAY more expensive than some pipes.
One end has a foil type material, the other is ceramic type. you can take a drill bit thats made for boring a large diameter hole in wood and stick it in the ceramic side of the pipe, and start breaking it up with that. Then use something, like a floor jack handle to repeatedly smash it up into little pieces. On the other side, you could use a big flat blade screwdriver and hammer to cut the big piece into smaller sections, then bang away with the jack handle again, and after about an hour of work, you'll just have hollow tubes. Of course this is irreversible, so unless you have a spare set, I'd recommend test pipes.
someone mentioned that the test pipes gave a very raspy noise..and i am putting the injen ses on soon and i know that will be loud in itself....someone also mentioned that they have a certain brand test pipe with a 'silencer',,,but i forgot who?
this thread might not be directly related to what im abou to say but what i dont understand is why some mods just dont work with others...i think all the different dyno sheets we have been seeing is really screwing up peoples perceptions of "worthy" mods because some stuff just doesnt work well with others....what exctly do test pipes do differently than high flow cats?
Test pipes flow more air than high flow cats. But they do nothing for burning off emissions as high flow cats do.
High flow cats are for the people who want to try to gain what test pipes gain but they have a guilty conscience. Test pipes allow all byproduct of internal combustion to exit the tailpipes.

hi-flow cats are cats that are less restrictive then stock, but not quite as free flowing as testpipes.
as far as cfm flow, from most to least, it would be test pipes, hi-flow cats, then factory cats.
I'm going the gutted route only because they were given to me for helping a friend do a brembo brake swap and installing his random tech y-pipe and cats.
