Default Cold air intake and water

Hey guys, I just installed the Injen CAI on my car and its curious to me as to how this will work if it rains (a lot) or wash your car? The filter is literally right in the bumper before the radiator so how will this be affected while driving in heavy rain? Now it might not hurt the engine (?) but it would surely wash off the oils on the filter quickly, right? Its just like running it under the faucet. Any experiences with this? Should i be worried, not drive it as much in the rain, etc?

Thanks

There is a high risk of your filter being submerged in water ONLY if you go through a puddle or a flood that's like 3 feet or so. Even without a CAI a person would face trouble if they decided to go through such puddle. All you have to do is drive very carefully when it rains and avoid big size puddles. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

As far as re-oiling the filter goes, you should always clean and do maintenance on the filter regardless of circumstances. I'd check the filter every time I do an oil change.

Was the risk of hydrolock worth the loss in performance?

you know, I really try to not drive in that kinda rain, but since I have been put in that position here in Texas, if the rain is coming down hard, low gear it to get home. I mean like 45mph in 6th gear. neutral it in big puddles.

i wonder how many people in my area, tennessee, got hydro locked this past week. if youre really worried about it, i think aem makes a little anti hydro lock insert. never heard any reports on it though.

theres been several times where I was caught in srious rain here and when I was in DC/VA/MD areas, all of which made me really nervous because I have an Injen CAI, I NEVER let the rpms exceed past 2500. Ive been thru rain here, DC/MD/VA, going down to NC, and road tripping from DC to so.Cal and back. the more throttle you give it, the higher the intake vaccum. Avoid HEAVY rain/flood though, thats always the best way

This is 100% correct.

The AEM insert doesn't fit right with the Injen CAI due to the lengths of the tubing. However, Injen makes a Hydro Shield for their CAI. Google it and you'll find the distributors. It runs around $25.

If you're worried about some of the water, get the hydro shield for the actual filter, it's like a screen on your windows. It'll stop most larger drops, but you may "loose some performance" or buy that AEM piece.
