Type: Mishimoto Carbon Fiber Intake
Car: 05 350Z Enthusiast
Install Time: <45 minutes
I recently purchased and installed a Mishimoto Carbon Fiber Intake on my 2005 350Z Enthusiast, so I thought I would share some information and some pictures.
Install - the directions that came with the intake were pretty clear and simple. The install only took me 45 minutes and I was very careful during the install to make sure I didn't scratch anything and that everything was aligned evenly. I am sure this could be installed even quicker.
Performance - I really haven't felt any change, which is good because there doesn't appear to be any heat soaking issues. In terms of sound, people suggest a whistling sound, but I don't hear any change. However, from the outside, if I do a high RPM pass by, the engine sound is significantly louder. This is true for inside the car as well, very good deep undertones.
In order to complete this review, this is my proposed plan of attack:
Temperature - infrared / thermal readings of intake tube and filter shroud after 15 minute drive time with OEM intake and Mishimoto CF intake
Sound Readings - measure decibel levels inside car, outside car, inside engine bay open, and exhaust for OEM intake and Mishimoto CF intake

Looks really good. Do you have any pictures of the air filter unit? Just wondering because I have a pop charger and the concept is similar but it looks like the Mishimoto intake is alittle more efficient (i.e. mounts close to the front air flow hole). Lastly, how much did you pay for it? Just curious - pop charger vs. Mishimoto (i.e. $100 vs $340)...

I don't have any pictures, but you are right, the intake is a little closer to the OEM front air flow whole and I think the filter might be a little larger.

I stole that image from another thread here

I don't know. If money wasn't an option, I'd definitely pay $370+ for this intake. It's loud, it looks great in the engine bay, no problems with stalling or cutout, the install was super easy, and the intake pipe and cooling shroud seem to stay cooler than the stock intake box, so those are a ALOT of positives. Most importantly, when it goes by you at 5-6K RPMs, you definitely do a double take because I swear it sounds like an exotica.

Thanks, I mean, there are definitely cheaper intakes out there, but if you want something that works, easy install, and looks good in the engine bay, and gives an awesome sound - I think it's definitely worth the investment
My younger brother (that owns an EVO and pointed me in the direction of the Z) said it best, he said "you don't own a civic anymore, so don't buy crap off of ebay and stick to the name brand things. you own a sports car, so buy the best and quit being cheap"......so I bought this intake

Compare it to some cold air intakes and it's not much more. I have the Injen and it's like high $200s anyway, but I think the Mishimoto design is better.
LOL at the ebay comment. I'm a firm believer in that sometimes you find good stuff on ebay.

Since we are talking intakes, this is a great example........

It won't be for a while, but if something happens, you are first on the list

But don't worry there is at least 40+ whp on the BUTT DYNO (just kidding)
I purchased it for sound, not horsepower, because we all know the horsepower on a NA 350Z isn't an easy feat. If you want horsepower, get a nitrous kit. If you want something reliable and gives your Z an exotic sounding engine, get this intake

Just an update, took it for a long drive (i.e. 250 miles) and it stayed pretty cool (compared to the stock box) but it definitely didn't improve my gas mileage.
Not sure if that's because I love the sound and pin the accelerator any chance I get on the interstate or if the +5whp makes a difference. Either way, still loving it.
