Default Popping in exhaust.

Ok, Finally got my berk test pipes installed on my 04 z. My current mods are Invidia Gemini catback plus a nismo cai. I noticed a constant popping in the exhaust when accelerating. It feels like im shooting flames. Is this safe for the car? Also, is this because i need a tune? Im trying to get the intake manifold before i get an osiris tune. The car sounds like a srt-4 currently. And last but not least, the test pipes rattle when i let off the gas in a low gear.

any help would be great. thanks!

Sounds like an exhaust leak.

yes it's normal. and yes you need a tune. your a/f ratio is different now which is probably why you have that pop, that was my problem.

^^he is saying on acceleration...there should be no popping or strange noises on acceleration and those mods is not gonna throw the tune off very far..a tune is not needed for those minmal bolt ons

nah no cel. its got the cel fix. The popping is under a good amount of throttle. Kinda feels like back pressure or something. I called R/T tuning and they said its running lean and i probally need a tune.

im telling u from experience, there is noooo way that those minimal mods are making ur car run lean enough to matter or cause a popping or whatever noise it is..it is another problem with the car causing it..I ran intake, test pipes, motordyne xyz, nismo cat back, plenum spacer, throttle body spacer all with no tune and no problems after i took my supercharger kit off and piggy back out all on stock ecu...it is not the few mods causing a tune issue...a ton of other people here are also running minor bolt ons with no tune and no issues..those mods are minimal and not going to cause a big change in the tune

maybe its just in ur head and its the sound u have now or an exhaust leak if it is running fine and no cel? hard to diagnose over a computer, but the stock ecu is plenty capable of compensating for those few mods

There is definitely a popping sound. I made quite a few people listen to it. Im leaning toward an exhaust leak. I made my dad rev it today while i was laying under the car and its hissing a little bit.

guys, what he is talking about is after installed test pipes, let's say you rev to redline..well there will be a sudden pop at the end. he is getting the same pop under WOT.

Whats the air pressure in the tires set at??? This will also have nothing to do with the normal popping at the high end of the revs with test pipes.

actually he is not saying at redline..he is saying driving under load..much different than banging off the limiter..obviously there is popping there..

hissing is a sign of a leak if u hear it under the car, unless ur talking about the little hiss at the end of revving out the tailpipe, that is normal with test pipes because of the flow and lack of back pressure..check for leaks though..hold it at a steady rpm and feel around

The SRT4 reference made me think it was loud with back pressure...like a WRX. Guess that's not what he was saying.

thats absolutely false..if someone has a rattle from installing test pipes then there is install error..i went thru 2 sets of high flows and 2 sets of test pipes and never had a rattle..along with many other people i know who run them...

Ok i dont have Test pipes but have been researching on them today cuz im thinking abt getting some and i saw that a few say they had rattle issues and it was the stock heat sheilds the new pipes sound waves where making them vibrate and rattle. because the stock cats have an additional aluminum shield to absord these sound waves. without that stock shield it could cause the other cat shields that are mounted on the body to vibrate. just remove/bend those and youll be fine. as to the popping?? im not sure, but is the diameter of the piping match with the other ends of the test pipes? (header and ypipe diameters correct?) if so try a new gasket.

I have an injen intake, greddy ti-c turbo exhaust, dc sports headers and just got berk test pipes as well..I have zero issues with it. I am getting it tuned but its due to the car running pretty lean. But no rattling, popping etc. Sounds the same except a lot louder and I hear tons of free flowing air passing through the intake/tp from 3500rpm and up. Something has to be wrong with your exhaust or there was a problem during the install.
