Default K&N Engine Air Filter

Hi-I have an 08 350z touring. Im at the 15k mark for service, took it to the dealer and opted only for an oil change (the wiper blades and engine air filter are too expensive, DIY is better).

I'm assuming the air filter replacement should be a snap-please confirm if not. On the issue of which air filter to get, a lot of people recommended the K&N air filters-the 08 requires 2, is it worth the investment-almost $110 for 2-any place to get them cheaper or should I go with OEM?

One concern is what a reviewer on Amazon posted-see this:

"k&N Air Filters do not work well with 2008 Nissan 350Z, September 10, 2008
By XXXXXXXX.XXXXXXX

I have a brand new 2008 Nissan 350Z roadster. At 500 miles I decided to install K&N air filters for that vehicle. After 1,000 miles I reinstalled the OEM air filters. The K&N air filters must have given the engine management computers problems. Acceleration with the K&N filters was very touchy, the engine surged, and a small press of the accelerator would make the vehicle lurch ahead then stumble. I switched back to the OEM filters and everything has returned to normal. I would not recommend K&N filters for use on a 350Z 3.5 liter V6. K&N part number 33-2399. "

Is this accurate? PLEASE HELP

I can't say much for an 08, but it's possible that his were over-oiled. I ran my K&N for quite a while on my 06 with no issues.

Over oiling any filter is a problem. The oil will be sucked off the filter and will contaminate the MAF sensor causing the problems described above.

I know these thing are popular, but personally I avoid them. I prefer a paper element filter. Oiled filters are a trade-off between higher flow rate and lower filtering. A few years back I ran across a site with test data on various types of filters. There a paper filter with nearly the same flow as oiled ones but have significantly higher filtration rates. My favorite is the Blitz LM filter.

Stick with the OEM paper filters. I can't think of another company that pumps out more marketing BS than K&N. I had one on my E30 M3 for just several thousand miles, and it let so much sand and grit past that I had to disassemble the intake system all the way to the cylinder head to properly clean it. If you really want to see if there's a performance improvement with a "higher flow" filter, just cut the paper out of your OEM elements and try them like that before you install the new ones. Even worse are their filters (and many others) which eliminate the OEM housing(s) and draw in heated air from the engine bay.

Thanks thats what I thought, do you know a better place (cheaper) than courtesy parts to get it? Also do you know if I have to put any oil over it?

A few months back I bought a pair of NAPA Gold air filters for $13, when they had a 2 for 1 sale.

Blitz is a dry paper filter - no need for oil. Air flow is higher than OEM and filtration is just as good. 56515 is the correct part number

I use K&N drop ins, but I never re-oil them. To me $35 every 10k miles is not a big deal.

I like the Apexi filter no oil needed and can be rewash and reused.
