Hey guys,

I recently purchased a intake without the filter. I've looked through Stillen's site and various forums and contacted Stillen to see if they can provide the dimension size of the filter (No response and info around).

Does anyone here know's the dimension of the filer? or can measure the filter if anyone have one laying around. (Overall diameter and height)

Sorry, I don't have the measurements, but I do know they used K&N filters. Try to call Stillen again.

 

The filters are K&N RU-2820. Keep in mind that these filters were selected and developed with the intake system. Differing filter sizes do have an effect on HP gains.

Whatever they tell you I'm sure you would have to replace them more often. That sand has to clog up the filters faster then normal conditions.

I wouldn't have gotten long tubes living in that environment lol.

 

Yeah the environment is harsh and the sand gets in everywhere, but i doubt it will clog up if i clean it normally.

 

K&N states cleaning (never need replacing) should happen at 50,000 mile intervals, but most enthusiasts will up that schedule, and obviously if you're in a specifically dirty area, more frequent cleanings should be considered.

There are a lot of guys who purchase a second set of filters, so they are able to do the swap quickly, and take their time cleaning them, so there is no delay in using the vehicle, but that's purely a convenience deal..

Also if youre in extreme areas, you can also consider a filter wrap for them..

^ interesting, never heard of a filter wrap, is it supposed to be finer than the actual filter?
Will it hurt the performance? (were they tested?)

I've used AEM dryflow on my old celica GTS (The filter goes 5 inches from the ground behind the wheel well and I had it for 5 years with no hyrdrolock or any problem at all). I like it better than oil base b/c I didn't have to clean it, repels water better? and from what I've read the air flow is better than the oil base one. Anyone here tried this before?

 

Nothing wrong with the AEM Dryflows.. but they still need cleaning!

They say every 30,000 miles.. and also have a cleaning kit which sprays a K&N cleaning solution on and is hosed off..

Both the K&N's and AEM would outflow what your vehicle needs for airflow.. it's not the weak link.
