Has anybody installed an injen cai in the grill or anyone think it would be a good idea. I saw it on a 350 in florida but wouldn't water and dirt get in the filter easier like that! Also has anyone installed a polished injen short ram heat sheild or seen one installed and is the inside of a nismo cai smooth or no found one for $269 is why im askin. throw some comments at me

No, it is not a good idea. If It rains a good amount or you go through a puddle with your car it will ingest water. Also, there is no gains to be had on long tube intakes on the z, only short cai.

The Injen and Stillen CAI's are outside the engine bay area yes, and they have "better access to colder air". The filters are up pretty high and you'd really have to submerge a lot of your car to let water in them. The filters are above the bottom lining of your doors, so water will be entering your cabin before it gets sucked into your engine (unless you dunk nose first into a really deep puddle). I have the Stillen and have no complaints...ish (all about the install). The filters don't get too dirty, nothing you couldn't just clean out with a little compressed air.

If you want cold air from the grill, look at the K&N Typhoon. The scoop shown here is located behind the grill.

No intake is going to get u good gains. Save that 200+$ for something that is more satisfying. Like an exaust or suspension

Hydrolock will not occur with either a hard rain or simply driving through a puddle with a CAI. The entire filter would pretty much have to be submerged to cause hydrolock.

As far as gains, if you just install any after market air filter, it will produce little to no gains. Combine it with an exhaust and the story changes.

To see any gains it all depends on how hot the engine gets right if it gets real hot a cai would be best and wont an air bypass valve make sure hydrolock doesnt occur. Also an exhaust will be paired with my intake and it will be put on the dyno in Atlanta to squeeze the most performance out of the z.
