Alright everyone, im new to the forum and thought i would add my 2 cents about my recent install (about an hour ago) of my nismo exhaust. my ride is a 2006 touring model with the rev up motor and a six speed. i already had the Z1 motorsports n/a stage 1 package installed with a jwt pop-charger minus the Z1 test pipes (they made the car too noisy inside and had too much rasp). so last night i bought a three piece oem (i think) NISMO exhaust off a guy on craigslist for $420.00. he told me it was from an 07 and would bolt right up cuz he used to have it on his 03 350z. i didnt really do much research before i picked it up because i was in such a hurry to get it before anyone else as i figured it was a steal at that price.
heres where my lack of research got me:
the exhaust DOES NOT bolt right up. at least part of it doesnt anyways. as a matter of fact the only thing i really got out of it was a nismo muffler. the Y-pipes are very different. the HR version had much longer extensions before coming together to a single pipe inlet and therefor did not fit inside the area made for the exhaust underneath the car. the overall length and bolt patterns matched however. still not useful though. then, to further my discouragement, the mid pipes are the exact same part. so there will obviously be no potential for any gains there. on the good side, the nismo muffler bolted right up just like a champ. i was pretty worried about the fitment due to the downward angles of the exhaust tips but they sit nice and flush with the stock rear bumper due to the smaller size of the nismo muffler. the inlet pipe appears to have less folds in the angle and is better shapped for an obvious smoother flow due to not having such a sharp angle going into the muffler. and it weighs less.
upon start up i could immidiately hear a subtle difference in the sound. the nismo muffler has a noticable base to it but like i said, it remains subtle.
test drive: not bad. the biggest difference it makes is that the car runs and pulls much smoother with the new muffler. it may just be because it is smoother but i feel like the car has a bit more mid range torque and doesnt feel like its going to shake to pieces when it gets close to redline. i got to top out third gear and it pulled very smooth and strong and felt like i was pulled into my seat a bit more. the sound actually got quieter than the stock exhaust i had on before at high rpms. its not as throaty. i was honestly hoping for a bit more aggressive sound
my conclusion: B-
not all the parts fitted and while i do like the way the muffler looks and performs, in retrospect i would have saved my money. it looks great and pulls a bit harder (i think) at least so its not a total loss. i am eager to see how it will all do with a tune from uprev after i can figure out if i want the motordyne mrev 2 plenum or the kinetix velocity...
now that i have two mid-pipes i might try doing a resonator delete on one of them and see how i like it. if i dont i can always throw the other midpipe back on. let me know what yall think!

Lol you got a stock exhaust with bigger tips next time
remember if it don't say s-tune it's not a nismo preformance part. The only part that you would make a gain from this system is the hr y pipe

I would say you overpaid about $270 but oh well...
Since it was CL deal - doubt you will get your $$ back..now that the exhaust is done - whats next on your list of mods?
The difference in shape is what causes the advantage. Basically what you installed for performance is NOTHING, the only gains you could have gotten are from the Y pipe. Sucker born every minute.

i dont think that anyone is arguing that there would be gains from the y pipe. the point is that this y pipe doesnt fit. there is not enough space for it underneath the car. perhaps the part sold to me is bogus. i dont know. the guy i bought it from said that the guy he got it from told him it would fit right up. he also agreed to buy back the y pipe from me. (thankfully)

Yeah put that y-pipes on, that's where you'll get the performance increase. Midpipes are the same like you said, and muffler is just a tiny bit different, performs the same, *might* be a tiny bit louder, and has bigger tips.
I just can't believe you paid that much for it. =( Not so bad though, life goes on.
Unfortunately for us though, as far as exhaust goes, power comes with loudness.
