Default 350z's vetrans input regarding exhaust and cold air int

guys,

Had my 08 GT z for a few months now. LOVE the sound of the Nismo Cat Back exhaust; and am more than likely going to install it......but heres my question: Does adding the Nismo dual cold air intake increase the output sound of the Nismo exhaust to the point where it is worth purchasing and installing too?? My problem is that I have a Nissan extended warranty till 2015, and because I am in Canada the cold air WILL void my warranty; every dealer I have asked nave been very up front about telling me so. With that being said, is it worth buying and installing the Nismo exhaust, is the sound that much better and noticeable over the stock system? Or does the Cold Air Intake just really make the exhaust sound so much better it is worth taking the chance with the warranty if some problem under the hood shall arise. OH, and I don't want to hear everyones preference or opinions about other exhaust systems, I like the Nismo and am getting a smoking deal if I choose to install it.

Thanks.

Can't speak too specifically to your situation; but, an intake adds what I would call an "intake noise" and it doesn't really affect your exhaust note.
Keep stock parts and slap them back in if/when going to dealer for warranty work. Simple!

Just do the exhaust. Most aftermarket exhausts drown out the wonderful sound of an aftermarket intake.

I think that is good advice gvulakh. Im listening to clips on youtube and thats EXACTLY what I am understanding; that you cant even hear the intake with the NISMO or other aftermarket exhausts. And I wont have to deal with constantly swapping out the cold air every time I need to go to the dealer for warranty work or oil changes etc. I am using this car 4 months out of the year, to run around town; I don't see the need for the headaches a cold air intake could cause. The benefits don't out weight the "side effects" of a CAI.......unless others can tell me otherwise??

Sounds like Canada has some stringent warranty rules. You want to invalidate the warranty with intakes? Then what is the point of having a warranty?

The car came with the warranty when I purchased the car a few months back. And there are ways around it ie. remove the CAI whenever visiting a dealer.....But your right, there is no point. I will stick to just the exhaust.

Throw the exhaust on it and see how you like it, and i would look up the canadian laws on warrenty for the intakes.

Kinda wondering why a CAI will void your warranty in Canada, but not the US...I'm with Terra on that one; I'd do some research myself.

Its not the "Canadian Laws" that have anything to do with the warranty. Each company whether it be a car manufacturer or third party vehicle warranty company has their own set of VERY specific terms that you must follow to maintain your warranty.

I had a 2006 Chev Cobalt with a Tricare warranty and it literally said in my warranty book that I could not perform any maintenance to my vehicle and that all maintenance had to be done at a licenced and recognized mechanic. So basically I was allowed to put gas and windshield washer fluid in it. Anything else, mechanic.

Even if I keep receipts from oil changes and record odometer readings on a very fancy maintenance log, my warranty is still void if I do an oil change myself. It does make sense though, just because I bought the stuff and wrote down my mileage...how do you know that stuff isn't still sitting in my garage or I pawned it off to a friend? They want a licenced mechanic to be held responsible because they are less likely to lie about this stuff for fear of losing their licence or business or something.

It is all stupid as hell, but hey, they make the rules.

....ya it sucks. My warranty is the premium added security plan (ASP) from Nissan Canada. The warranty itself is unreal, covers EVERYTHING. But also states that many things will void the warranty, and a cold air intake is one of them. The actual manufacturers warranty that runs 3 years or 60,000 kilometres in Canada states the same thing. I called NISMO, aka Nissan Motorsports, and they stated that installing the cold air will void the warranty. This was directly told to me by a NISMO tech, at its head quarters in California, when I called. He also told me that the cold air is a NISMO R Tune part, meaning RACING. All R Tune parts will create warranty issues. But the NISMO exhaust is a S Tune part, Meaning STREET. They don't cause warranty problems. These rules are for both Americana and Canadian markets NISMO I was told. Maybe American dealers don't in force these rules as much as Canadian?

Personally if you're only looking to do intake/exhaust just get a good drop-in filter, the stock airbox is pretty good, maybe a smoother elbow to replace the crinkle plastic between the MAF and the throttle body
