Each state is different, and California does not recognize the executive order number for the RT cats as an authorized replacement. You must use new OEM cats, or refurbished ones as replacements only. If you are really that concerned and want to be absolutely sure you are legal then you should call CARB and find out what is legal and what is not....there are some big fines if you get caught so it would be worth your while to make sure.

IMO if you can't see the cat then there should not be an issue, these cats will pass smog because they are CARB certified.

Has anyone got a CEL with these aftermarket cats?

C.A.R.B.
California Air Resourses Board Exemption Order

You can call them, I'm just gonna plop the card in my glove box like it says. Note the C for California not Kansas.
It's not a KARB.
Peace Out!

Yes, my car passed the Calif sniffer test with almost NO difference than the stock car's emissions. Plus I have Nismo cams as well!!!

well i will let others do the research that i have already done...and i don't intend on telling people that those cats are legal in California like you and spread false information, or giving someone a false sense of security saying that a piece of paper will get you off the hook... maybe in another state but not in California. i know they will pass smog, but all i am saying is that they are not legal in California period, and if you get caught you will pay a healthy fine

WHOO... I know your not refering to me... right? I have NEVER said they were legal in Calif... or any other state. I have always told people to check their local state laws.

Well I guess a CARB E.O. number is worthless everyone stop buying them in California ASAP.

Talk about a buzzkill.

Jeff is right it's case by case basis so check your local laws and if you are unsure just don't install them as was already mentioned.

I got pulled over after a meet for a "modified exhaust"

Cop had me rev my engine, with nismo exhaust , high flow cats, intake...

looked around the car...

looked under the hood...

let me go...

I revved it up to 5000 rpm by accident, the tilton flywheel is pretty darn jumpy!

my statement was directed to 12secz who appears to believe that his RT cats are legal in the state of California

and i am not telling everyone not to buy them either because RT makes a good product and their quality is excellent

i am just saying to be aware that they may be illegal in your state (California in particular) and there could be a steep fine if you are caught with them, thats all...sorry if i came across defensive to anyone....out

No cats - big fine, I would take them to court on any other cite and fight it. I know what a E.O. order is in California and I am running cats because mine was damaged.

edit sorry you are right. CA sucks. Laws were made to be broken.

Jeff and 12secZ- you guys suck, I got cited for "modified exhaust" which, after a visit to the BAR ref, was determined to be completely legal since a cat back exhaust does not fall under emissions (smog) unless it has an EGR. Cost me $35 and 2 hours of my time . This was pre cats of course

This design, which meets Federal EPA and California ARB requirements, enables virtually any vehicle with a properly tuned engine to meet emissions standards with little, if any power loss (compared to an exhaust with no catalytic converter). Please note that no aftermarket catalytic converters are legal for installation in California on OBD II vehicles (some 1994 & 1995, and all 1996 and later vehicles).

I just pulled that off RT's cite so RW is right.

Pathetic if you ask me, I hate California. My appoligies for being wrong.

Don't do as I do or say because I am a rebel and you will go to jail and then probably hell

Out....

no foul no harm...i hate cali laws too and i don't even live there

so i guess all of these aftermarket cats have about the same performance gains, eh...did not intend to get so far off topic

I love you too, hate Cali though because that CARB E.O. card is trickery. Glad you made me research it!
