Sorry but i have to go back to the issue of Borla TD exhaust's construction. Can't you just weld some of the parts like say the H-pipe and not have a problem with it's construction? Would that make a noticeable sound difference? Would any problems arise in the future?

P.S. sorry to hijack the thread, in a way, but I'm looking forward to going with the Borla TD exhaust and just have to know.

I don't think you can just weld them together.
I'd suggest taking a look at both systems in person. You will see the difference clearly.

There are a a lot of people that have the Borla and really like it so if its what you want then why not go with it ? I'm sure you can get it installed right too.

Personally though I think there is no comparison in the quality between the two.

Remember there is no regulation on how HP Gains are taken.

Usually company's take the LOWEST BASELINE PULL and compare it to the HIGHEST MODDED PULL.

So, You could havea baseline of lets say 224, 227, or 229.

Then do your modded pull... 230, 232, 234.

Now, If you were to post your highest baseling of 229 and compare it to the highest modded pull you only gain 5hp...

But when you compare it to your lowest pull you gain 10... which number would "company" post to sell more product?

Which ever exhaust you put on your car is not going to do nearly as much unless you add a set of Random Technology High Flow Cats

I followed the link. The cats on that page are apparently not legal for street use. There is a warning that says the buyer agrees to use them off road only.

Here in CT we have emissions testing.

Are there any legal high-flow cats? (dot approved?)

Bah, i need to update that page...

They are CARB LEGAL!, and pass emissions testing even here in california. The only thing is you can not change the cats on our cars below 50,000 miles or unless they are damaged.

But, remember that rock you hit

I know when nismo published their numbers, I don't belive there has been anything negative about their claimed horse power. In most cases I have seen more of a gain.

Maybe it's just me but the HP gains are way too low to justify dropping a $grand.

I got the Borla as much for the sound as anything else. Most individual mods, other than FI, give relatively low HP gains. If you get enough of them, then the cumulative effect will boost your power.

true. but it's like getting slicks on a civic, you gotta put in a lot more $ to get any use out of it

You will not be disapointed with either one...

But if you dont care about sound or HP... The NISMO seems to be constructed better..

Good luck!

Let us know how you decide!

Not to make this any more confusing, but a test by car and driver a couple months ago had the fastest 0-60 Z with a stock exhaust system. Out of the 4 tested it was also the only NA one. Apparently the stock system isn't bad.

correct,

the stock cat back is great, the CATS and Stock headers are restrictive. the stock CATS are like a giant hair ball in the exhaust...

time for RT high flow cats...

RT cats and Stock Exhaust is a great combination

Exactly my point. It doesn't make sense to replace components that function well in stock form. So far the dyno's I have seen of aftermarket systems do not justify their cost. The hell with sound, I want results. IMO, there is no need to replace the stock exhaust. Just replace the cats..unless you are going to forced induction.

Exhaust is more what we call a "smile" mod... its the sound your going for... no exhaust is going to give you a huge gain unless you change out the cats as well... on the Z at least...

Which now brings up the question- What does a Z sound like with a stock system and the high flow cats? I am not looking for a huge amount of noise (an increase would be nice though), and more power for the buck is always better.

It is a bit louder and fuller sounding from the cab. Out side is a bit louder and fuller as well...

I have the NISMO and highly recommend it.
Changes the whole attitude of the car.
I picked it up from Jason at Performance.
Go for it! you'll be happy.

If you give me your zip code and if it is going to a residence or a business, I can give you the shipping cost.

We can put the cats in the same box too...

shipping is any where from 100-160 in the states... gets there in 3-5 days...

PM me your info if you want, and ill get you the exact address
