Both sound great....the Borla sounds a little more open, and deeper at idle, but the NISMO sounds great too....like a louder stock exhaust (very buttery midrange)...and since they make the same (minimal) gains, go with preference.

I thought that borla had slightly more gains.

BOrla sounds deep.. quiet.. next to the NISMO Exhaust

NISMO is a Y pipe going from 2.5" piping to 3.25" piping at the Y base... 3.25" pipe going into the muffler and out 2.5"

It is 3 pieces...

The borla is what like a dozen pieces of pipe you piece together. Each one needs to be positioned in the perfect way or you will get a leak... too much that can go wrong with it.

Jason, yeah it is 12 peices, but if you take your time you wont get any leaks. So I think thats kinda of an unfair assesment. But yes, the NISMO is easier to install.

I brought mine to a local muffler shop and they charged me $75.00 to install the Borla.

I just purchased the Nismo exhaust and would not have another. Very exotic sound like a tweeked M3. And the look is second to non. Spent twenty five minutes on a lift and was ready to ride.

I think the Borla sounds pretty good. It is not overly loud so as to give you a lot of cabin noise at idle or low rpm's. If you go WOT the Borla sounds pretty darn good, especially when matched with a pair of RT Cats and a nice intake.

I agree that the more pieces there are the more chance for a leak, but as Brad4rdHay says, if you take your time and do it right you will be fine. The weakest link in the Borla is the "H" pipe. That should have been one welded piece. Most people that have had leaks have had them at the "H" pipe.

The other common complaint I've seen wrt the Borla is that because of all those pieces, if you don't get them twisted and adjusted just right, when you get to the back of the car, the tips won't appear to be aligned the same. It requires some tweaking.

I talked to the installer at a local performance shop and he suggested tack welding all the pieces to prevent creaking, shifting and misalignment from occuring.

The trick to installing the Borla is to start at the back and work forward. Don't tighten anything down until all the pieces are in place and use the tips as a guide while you are making the adjustments. Once the tips are alligned the way you like them, tighten down the clamps and then double check the clearances near the underbody parts so as not to have any rattles.

with cars, heck anything in life... the more things that can go wrong will go wrong...

I dont understand why Borla made the Z TD so many pieces!

The G35 coupes are maybe something like 4 pieces. none of the clamp stuff of the other borla.

I have always loved borla's on Z's dont get me wrong. Me and my brother had borla headers and exhaust on his 280 turbo (15inch wide rear tires and custom wide body kit) As soon as I got my Z I was originally going to go all borla for the exhaust... I got my NISMO Exhaust long before I started working with Performance Nissan, when I saw how the Borla was constructed, it turned me away from it.

Another vote for Nismo, the quality is second to none - the exhaust note and butt-dyno performance improvement are
better than I had imagined.

After 10M miles no leaks and my tips are adjusted perfectly. They have a very interesting sound at 2000rpm. Just another one of those preference things. buy what you like, you won't realize a lot of hp until you add other mods.

I traded out my Stillen for the Nismo. Fit and finish is second to none. I like it alot. HP gains on most exhausts are the same buy the one that is built the best and sounds the best to you.

Something to remember - we buy for HP, but you drive torque.

Exhaust Shootout notes:

Borla = 8.2 Hp - 2.7 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
A top end system. Little HP increase until the 5600 rpm to 6500 rpm range. Lost HP & torque below 1800 rpm. 60mm (error actually 58mm). Weighs 52lbs. 1 million mile warranty. Installation - Hard (17 pieces)

5Zigen = (-3.4) Hp - .02 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Lost Hp, no real torque gain. Most expensive. Loudest. 58mm pipe. Lightest @ 25lbs. 1 year Warranty. Installation - Medium

Stillen = 8.1 Hp - 7.3 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Hp and torque increase starting at 3000 rpm to redline. Lost a little HP & torque below 1800 rpm. 60mm pipe. 74lbs - 10lbs heavier than the stock system. Lifetime Limited Warranty. Installation - Easy

Injen = 7.6 Hp - 5.1 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Small torque loss at 2800 rpm. Torque gain starts at 3300 rpm. Small Hp increase starts at 3300 rpm, max Hp from 5800 rpm to redline. Major loss in Hp and torque below 2200 rpm. 49lbs.
1 year Warranty. Installation – Easy

Nismo = 6.3 Hp - 4.5 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Torque increase starting at 3000 rpm. HP increase 4800 rpm to redline. No power losses below 1800 rpm. 54lbs. 3 years, 36K miles id installed by Nissan dealer. Installation - Easy
