Default AAM vs Greddy single exhaust

I know there alot of posts in this section like this, but I hope mine won't be flamed. I have a fully built N/A motor, I currently have a knock off hks exhaust, but I am kinda concerned that the 2.25inch piping might be restrictive, and I am getting tired of the drone from the H pipe, my Megan headers have a 2.5 collector, and I am seriously considering running a motordyne xyz y pipe with resonator, but I am kinda torn, I like both the AAM and greddy single exhausts, I want a single for the weight savings, and I hate working around the hks axle back sections. I think the greddy sounds alittle better, but I am concerned that the 70mm piping on the greddy will hurt my performance because it isn't 3 inch. And the AAM is alittle more expensive too. Any useful input is much appreciated!

if i remember correctly you can compare a single to a duel and TD exhaust. Each has differently flow capasities.

^^I think hes asking between the aam single and greddy single. This topic has been beat to DEATH. Just search around a bit and you will form your own opinions. For me, I think 3inch is just fine for na. I used to run aam single and it drones quite a bit, so you won't fix the droning by going with a single. Either way, you won't lose performance with greddy or aam. Bolt on's will do very little to improve hp, so don't worry about the piping diameter or performance gain, just go with what you think sounds better.

just a warning if you get a ti-c.. if you have a slammed z then the resonator in the exhaust will literally sit on the ground...

Actually its the other way around. For na cars bigger piping creates pressure losses and thus lower gains. 3" is generally for turbo cars because they churn out higher power.

As a rule of thumb. up to 300 hp 2.25"-2.5" piping allows the best flow. I believe stock is 2.5".

To rid your drone look up the magnaflow xpipe mod.

never said using 3" TD and stock isnt 2.5 is 2.25ish. Im saying if he keeps the 2.25TD he will be fine but if he goes bigger than that it going to loose a little.

I am going to argue alittle saying that a single 3 inch might not be enough according to the research that Motordyne did on the single exhaust on a stock motor, a 3 inch lost alittle power and made more power with the xyz pipe and nothing behind it. I am pushing more air now (I am not saying I am pushing boosted amounts of air) The exhaust sound notably changed after the engine build (kinda giving the idea that there is more getting pushed out)

I drove 800 miles today in my 350z, and I had alot of time to think, and in the end, I will probably just make my own exhaust with Vibrant mufflers, save myself a few hundred bucks because it doesn't have a brand name on it...

Not to be an ***, but how much R&D can a mid pipe exhaust have, it is almost a straight shot exhaust with hopefully 2 mufflers

there is none...

my AAM is just pipes and vibrant mufflers&resonator put together at AAM....

If you get a shop to weld good and put the pieces together in a quality manner you'll save 1-200 bucks off the name...

I think your gains / losses would be minimal going with either exhaust on your current setup. It's really up to you on what looks and sounds best.

I love you right now, I went searching around for more pictures of the exhaust and poof, there it is vibrant right on the exhaust! There is a pro pipe fabricator in Austin that I might go hit up, I can get the resonator and muffler for alittle over $250 and even with $200ish in fab, it would still be a but load cheaper! The Motordyne XYZ Y pipe w/resonator will almost be more expensive (I want a quieter exhaust if I can some how make it happen, haha. I am also pretty happy about this because I can have a full 3 inch exhaust.

You are right, I don't really expect a performance gain (but I wouldn't complain if there was) but I don't want something that might choke it. Looks, I think the HKS takes the cake of all exhausts, but I hate working around it and I would like something I could trim some weight on and maybe reduce some noise. I have watched alotta AAM exhaust clips, and I am happy with the sound. I think my HKS knock off sounds great until you pass 4k rpm at full throttle, then it goes full rice...

What other exhaust mods do you have? Is it raspy, does it drone, is it too loud etc, you can watch videos on youtube all day trying to get a feel for how an exhaust sounds, but in person is always better
