Final Word on Borla TD Exhaust???
It seems prices are starting to come down a little. I can get the Borla TD system for $649 shipped now. I have read through numerous threads and this is my conclusion: * The Borla system is only slightly lounder than stock, but still makes a pleasant, almost exotic sound. * Expect a HP gain of 7-10 at best * The system is well crafted, but may require some minor tweaking to make it fit * The system is ideal for the Northeast because it is constructed of stainless steel and has a lifetime guarantee. * Borla owners...speak up! Are these comments true??? What are your impressions?

the NISMO exhaust is stainless steel and only 3 pieces.
Borla is slightly louder then stock but is mostly low end rumble...
Its a hard decision i know...

yea yea yea, borla is good, just get it already.
you will not be wishing that you had nismo if you have already made up your mind.
Or get nismo, and wonder if you should have spent the extra $ on tint.

bad things i've heard:
BORLA -> too many peices (causes rattles), it's hard to line up the tips properly/evenly becuase of all the peices...
NISMO -> not true-duel, not as big of a performance icrease compared to others
INJEN -> angled tips, new straight tip design doesn't provide same power gains

Even if the Borla rusts, i has a million mile warranty so I'm sure they'll be more than happy to replace it for you. In any case, I have the Borla headers\exhaust combo on my coupe and it sounds great! I think all in all, every exhaust has its strengths and weaknesses. It's just up to your opinion and how much money you want to spend...

The Borla system is 100% stainless steel including the clamps so, I do not see it rusting since stainless steel does not rust. As for the issue of too many parts, that is ridiculous. If you, or your installer cannot put together 12, or so, pieces of pipe then it is time to hang up the wrenches. If you are worried about leaks, just weld it together once you have it fitted. Min ehas been on my car for 9+ months without a problem ...

Borla does not sound exotic in my opinion. Stock is way more exotic and the nismo builds on that more. I like the borla at first, but i like the stock sound better. I bet I would like the Nismo even more, but stock exhaust is fine for now. My headers and cats give that extra sound that will tide me over for a while.

Everyone always complains about the Borla. If you know what you're doing, there will be no rattles etc.
My dad and I installed the Borla in our garage and got everything perfectly lined up and w/o any problems. The multiple pieces actually make it easier to install IMHO.

Did Doug have the Borla exhaust on the car that was wrecked? If so, and you still have access to the car, now may be a good time to cut open the Borla muffler and see what exactly is in there.

I recently helped my buddy Steve install a Borla system on his 350Z. It took far too long to do. There were 18 pieces including clamps. We had to hand fit many slip joints because they weren't round or properly sized, bend or straighten hangers to fit.... I'm sure you get the idea.
Having previously owned and personally installed 5 Borla catback systems, I was quite surprised and disappointed at the amount of trouble we had with his system.

i backed my car onto some ramps and installed the borla td exhaust by myself and put high temp silicone around all the joints...it took a while because of the low clearence but i got it on with no problems, leaks or rattles....i like the sound it produces and am sure it will really sound badass with some high flow cats...just thought i'd throw in my 2 cents
