Default advice for power gains

well i have a 2005 base and i would like to do some amature drifting. i would like to get some more power. ive noticed that when my tires get towards the blad end things seem easy, so im looking for some gains to get that same ease with newer tires. i use it as my dd so i would like to avoid anything too risky or will have my car inoperatble for more than a week. i recieved some advice to redo the intake, spacer, high flow cat back on the exhuast(y and test pipes right?) but thanks my budget is like 3-6 grandish just depends on how easy i will need to take it. thanks guys

You can do bolt ons but inevitably you will want more power . Your car is a base put an LSD in and drifting will become easier but don't expect the car to hold up well if you drift it a lot .

im not going to competion it yet. i just want to see if its what i really want to do with the car. if it is then i will get a small truck to transport it and parts. ive read through that fourm before but i was hoping for some advise. obvously i can get the power i need if i tt or st but sacrafice reliability and a sh3t ton of cash. but i dont want to spend a ton of a ton on bolt ons and end up having to sell it or most of it cause of f/i

You will wear out parts faster beating on it

You won't achieve anything spectacular with bolt ons and will barely feel an increase in power to be honest

  • Limited slip differential
  • Motordyne ART test pipes
  • Motordyne XYZ pipe (w or w/o resonator)
  • Motordyne TDX 1 or 2
  • Motordyne plenum spacer
  • JWT pop charger

Have fun

Depends on HOW MUCH more power you are talking about.I agree with some other posts, bolt ons are not gonna give you the big noticable increase in power you are more than likely looking for.You may want to save up your money and do to a mild single turbo set up(Momentum makes a good one, they are nearby you in Wilmington).Probably cost you a couple of grand
more than your 6k budget but it may be what you want in the long run.

I did every bolt on(borla true dual, test pipes, mrev2, motordyne spacer, headers, fujita intake,) and i spent about 5 grand and i REGRET it, couple more and like others said I could've had a turbo or the jwt tt. The Mrev and exaust and test pipes were the only noticable difference but not by much.

NOW, since you drift, I highly recommend:

Aftermarket clutch and Light weight flywheel(chromoly/steel is better in the long run, but aluminum wears out quicker but gives better acceleration/decceleration is what shops have told me).

Clutch type lsd(for drifting it is the best and 2-way, I got a 1.5way cause i dd my car)

A good aftermarket seat(better control you stay put)

Strip the car(most of it is free, lighter weight=better response, start with everything in the back and move towards the front).

Again, this is just my opinion, but this way you will spend the same money as with the bolt ons but have a better car suited for drifting. Also if you drift your dd or mod it(depends on the mod) you will sacrifice reliabilty.

im not hard core drifting currently(i may or may not in the future) i do it mostly for fun. i would ive been trying to jump on some competitons to meet some like minded people and learn a thing or two. it just bothers me that i cant get some good sideways action when i slap on a newer set of tires. how risky is that st? do i need to upgrade interals with that kit? and how much with it hurt my fuel eco? i know sc i dont have to worry about any turbo lag but turbos are more fuel eco right? ive spent weeks kinda floating through these fourms tring to find my answer but nobody has had the same question. sorry for being dumb on alot of this stuff

1. set a budget
2. attend events with the car stock
3. take notes

from there, mod accordingly
