Default ART test pipes and CEL with HR

Do people with HRs have problems throwing CELs with ART TPs ?
I'm in Cali...you know the*story*

FYI..yes, I searched and it seems they aren't prone to throwing CELS..but I wanna get HR feedback here.

TIA...

you got it backwards bro HR's throw CEL's like crazy when you install test pipes

best thing to do is stuff some steel wool into your O2 bung and reset your ECU immediately preceding your inspection.. my car usually won't throw the cel until about 50 miles later and luckily the inspection shop is 8 miles away

I'm talking ART pipes here...they have specially designed o2 bung extension that avoids CELS...so I hear and read.

Oh..and as far as inspection...won't you still fail on emissions with no CAT on there, or does steel wool do something I'm not aware of?

Don't do this you will not pass steel wool yes with 02 non foulers if you do throw a cel don't think that you can just reset the ecu right before and erase the codes you will pass safety but not emissions I thought someone with your post count would know this. I had testpipes did the 02 non fouler it worked till it got cold out then put some high flow cats on and same thing fine all summer and fall then winter hit and my cel came back. I got and uprev tune now inspection is no sweat

The steal wool helps filter the exhaust that hits the o2 sensors making it think there are cats

This extension is considerably long and should be sufficient. Some members believe that the longer the extension the better. Or that you should block exhaust gasses with some sort of material such as brillo pad. Wrong. The secondary sensor must read something. It will not operate properly with a zero reading.

I suspect that the test pipe is OK. Look else wear for a solution.

I had a P2a00 and P2a03 on mine a few times, for the primaries I believe due to the ART pipes but just turned that code off and it stopped making a weird gurgle at start up (cold start). I have been tuned since the install too.

Yes..AFR/02 sensor precat is compared to post cat 02. I guess this ART design has been tweaked and calibrated to *simulate* stock readings. From what I gather CELs are very uncommon in this set up. What I'm now wondering...once Calif goes OBD ONLY (no sniffer) in 2014...will I get away with this? Currently, you would pass Calif OBD (if defouler works properly), but sniffer will bust your A$$.

How would primaries (pre cat) be effected by ART pipes?

PM Hydrazine on here. That is Tony from Motordyne he should be able to help you out. I have had no problems with my ART pipes but I read in the ART pipe thread that one member had a thrown CEL, although it isn't common it can happen.

If your ever tuned with Osiris, you can turn off the CEL.

Sorry but am not familiar with California emissions.

Yes..I'm Osiris tuned. I don't know if turning off CEL alone is sufficient to fool OBD smog test though. That's my main concern here in Calif when they go OBD ONLY in 2103.

In ny I passed with uprev tunning turning them off you will be fine and if there's a sniffer I'm sure you can rig something up lol

Sounds encouraging...pretty sure sniffer will be gone by then. If not...I can always swap em.

Not sure about Cali, but here in NJ, they just go through the computer for smog. They don't stick the reader in the exhaust anymore. And yes, you can't just reset the ECU, it will come up on their screen as "Not Ready" until you drive enough miles for it to be ready, by then the CEL will pop up again.

ART pipe throwing CEL is very normal on HR... Happened to numerous HR Z's already. It usually goes away after a little driving... No big deal. Mine went on about 4 times since i took ownership of my ART pipes a year ago... Went away within a few days....

Try taking out the steel wool that's in the bung.

We made a design change to the bung that renders the steel wool overkill. Its not needed any more.
