please tell me this is not rasp
Hey guys, just installed APS test pipes.
I started up and went one block and started hearing this awful metal to metal sound. I hope this is not what you all mean by rasp, because it sounds like its coming directly from underneath me, not part of the exhaust note.
Loose bolts? Would bad gaskets cause this because I reused the stock gaskets which were in decent condition after 50k miles.

Yes but it goes the whole range of rpm not just low rpm. Its very very loud and noticeable. Not at all suddle. and its coming from underneath me, not from the end of the exhaust. I'm jacking it up now and checking for loose bolts and replacing the y-pipe 2 bolt gaskets.
Sometimes the exhaust will vibrate off that metal brace directly under you causing the sound. Throw some washers between the brace and the car and it will back it off the exhaust a bit. I had the same issue and it fixed mine.
The brace actually isn't on haha. So its not the brace. I think that brace is not needed with TP's, as I've read in countless threads and even mentioned by Tony from Motordyne.

So I jacked it up again and found a loose bolt on one of the manifold side test pipes. Tightened those up as best I could (PITA! cuz of space). Then installed new 2 bolt gaskets and tightened those screws and now it sounds good on the jacks. Gotta take it down now and take a spin and see how it sounds under load. Hopefully its okay.
So I took it out and the rattle is gone. But man does this thing rasp. Almost to the point where its embarrassing. I'm guessing this is do to OEM exhaust? Will an aftermarket exhaust fix this or what because i'm debating ordering one now this is pretty bad.
Test pipes are hit or miss.Its probable that the rasp will still be there if you go to a
aftermarket exhaust.You are messing with harmonics.Its very hard to track this down
and fix it completely.A little late now but did you check out info on your test pipes...

trust me i wish i could of gone with those but they are just too expensive. i couldn't justify purchasing two stainless steel pipes for $500. I got these test pipes for 70 bucks in great condition.

Oh for sure. I know the ART pipes are better, but not everyone is willing to shell out a car payment for them. If I could I would. No need to make me feel bad bout my purchase. Its not like I bought eBay knockoff pipes.
ART pipes are good and don't really rasp themselves, however other parts of the exhaust can rasp with them, i believe it's part of the smaller diameter piping connecting to the larger diameter pipe.
