I am taking off my Plenum to get it polished , those that have done this did you replace that gasket.

 

No, you will be fine running your stock gasket.

Be EXTREMELY carefully in putting the plenum back on however, as it is VERY easy to bend and ruin.

You are probably okay, but the gasket is cheap. I would change it just so you don't risk doing it twice. That is what I did.

 

If you do mes up the gasket...

I can get you a new one...

and all other OEM parts

 

Guys... relax.

It's a copper gasket which has no need to be replaced if he's careful.

If he bends it, is can be lightly tapped back into place. If he creases it, then sure get a new one.

Don't waste the cash if you can be careful with what is fine.

How thick is the gasket? Can you add more to increase the plenum volume cheaply?

Didn't look like a hot seller... you have to realize, you have only mm's until you hit the bar.

 

Their gasket is extremely overpriced for what it is. A few mm's height probably goes a long way when multiplied by the length and width. There is still the Crawford bar if you want to go a little higher. But I don't know if hood clearance towards the rear of the plenum would be an issue.

 

I looked up the gasket today for a customer.. I believe it was something like $14 list? Dont quote me on it.. but somewhere around there...

 

The TS gasket was well over $100, and from the looks of it may raise it no more than 5mm.

The OEM should be right around that $14...

To me that's half a tank of gas!

 

Wow gas in TN is that expensive too...

$100 gets you about a 1/4 of a tank here in cali....

It spiked the other day, hit $1.79... I got pretty pissy about that!

 

That spacer gasket was well over $500. The problem is that no one has any performance numbers on this. It may be just as good a mod as the Crawford plenum $/HP, but no one was able to validate it.

I was going to try to make one out of T6 aluminum, but my buddy lost his access to the CNC machine we were going to use. I thought about making one out of UHMW, but I think the running temperature of the plenum is too high for most easy to mil polymers.

 

I think my nissan dealer charged me $4.XX for my gasket when i bent mine. I keep one in storage now incase I do the same thing again. They were on back order for a while.

The above link is to the espirit power intake. I emailed some people about it but couldn't get any solid info. It looks to acheive the same thing as Crawford, but with less ugly (and probably less hp gain too).

The spacer kit was made by Esprit and is ridiculously expensive for just a spacer. You have to remove the strut bar on that kit as well.

 

In addition to what Mike (err Victor) said, as I remember the motor mounts must be cut (lowered) so the raised plenum will clear the hood. Also, the Espirit doesn't equalize the Air flow to the front and rear cylinders. It just raises the whole plenum (back as well as front). So while the fronts now get enough mixture with the Espirit, the rears get to much. From all that I've heard, not a good mod.

How do you know it does not equalize the manifold? Hvae you seen it in person? For all we know, the gasket could be tapered so that the front is raised more than the rear......I'm conjecturing obviously, but it is possible.

The Esprit project car has this gasket installed on their car. While it is expensiove (everything from them is expensive), having seen videos of the car in action, the car is quite fast......and its still 100% NA.

If you want to retain the stock strut tower bar, the motor mounts must be cut 8mm. If you don't mind losing the strut brace, you can leave the mounts as is.

 

So what if the gasket raises it equally? The problem is that the front 2 cylinders are starved at higher rpm. The gasket reduces that, and probably doesn't affect the rear. It shouldn't matter if the other 4 get more plenum space.
