Default Has anyone replaced the resonator with an aftermarket muffler?

I'm sorry if this question has been asked already but i couldn't find it. Has anyone replaced the resonator with an aftermarket muffler and kept the rest of the exhaust stock? Basically cats, y-pipe, aftermarket muffler, stock muffler. If so how does it sound? Im thinking of getting a magnaflow 14". Thoughts? Ideas? I dont want anything ricey i love the way the VQ sounds stock but i want to amplify the rumble a little. I have a 2005 touring edition. Thanks in advance

you wont amplify the rumble that way, run test pipes on the stock exhaust for that.

Correct in stock form your doing nothing to the exhuast note except mayber lowering the db or changing it's pitch slightly. Delete resonator for increase note.

Got strup test pipes (non resonated) on the stock exhaust. Love the way it sounds. Louder than stock, the tone did change a bit at the higher rpms, but still sounds like a VQ. Oh and no rasp, at all.

Will I pass emissions without a resonator?

Also could I get a link to some test pipes you recommend?

If you live in Atlanta, test pipes won't work--emmissions.
I live outside of the counties that require testing.
If test pipes won't work with your car, look at some HFC's.
Berk makes some good ones.Check with Z-1 Motorsports in Carollton.
They handle several brands incl. Berk.
As others have said, adding a aftermarket muffler in place of the resonator
will just lower the tone.Unfortunately, here in the south, these muffler shop
weld ons are common.Everyone I have heard sounds pretty bad.Or,like
a pickup with Flowmasters.

This, well, maybe double, but certainly the ten times sound quality

So, replacing the center resonator with another one? you'll be lucky to get any change. If you want a deeper rumble, you'll need to change the rear muffler for something.

Adding the XYZ with straight pipe might help a little, it depends if you want a low rumble or a volume increase.
