Best Test Pipes??
I am looking for test pipes but I'm not sure which to purchase. Is there much of a difference between brand "A" or "B"? Any information is greatly appreciated.
Also I have seen numbers in the range of 10-15 HP increase. Is this accurate??

i have CAI and test pipes.. i dynoed 15 hp over stock.. i would imagin the only difference in some would be the build quality.. diameter varies a little bit but not by much
also some are titanium which is cool but a little expensive

i am using lsdunique's pipes.. great quality... there is a raspy sound.. i think all test pipes will have this sound.. the sound is said to be caused my more airflow smacking into the muffler ? seems like a good explanation I think my car sounds good

Bought the XERD pipes and all I can say is that I should have done this a long time ago. The sound is great! As for HP gains, I haven't dynoed the car but I can say that it seems (may be in my head) that it accelerates quicker/smoother to some degree (nothing huge). I went with these b/c they have an addtional bracket (like the stock cats) that helps support the system and it was priced about the same as competitors.
Just wanted to spread the word about these test pipes.
I have the Stillen cat back and the JWT Pop charger which add to the sound!!

I understand the decision based on the brackets, it only makes sense!! We are adding our brackets to the test pipes as well. (we already supply them on all our high flow cat options)
There won't be any performance difference between one brands test pipes and anothers so you cant really go wrong.

LSD, im deciding between your high flow cats and test pipes with resonators, which gives a better hp boost and which doesn't smell as bad. They are like 10$ difference so I want to know which wil fit me better in terms of these characteristics.

The test pipes with resonators will give you the most in performance due to the straight through design. The high flow cats will show great performance, with zero negative emissions effects. The pipes with resonators will have that un burnt fuel smell.
If you plan on going FI in the future, I would go test pipes with resonators, if you plan on staying NA, then the high flows are the way to go.
And no they do not throw a CEL.

I can attest to the quality of LSD's test pipes and I had one of the first pairs. They fit great and seem to make power.
I think, if you have the money, test pipes with resonators is the way to go. As long as you're not in stop and go traffic, the pungent smell of the exhuast will not bother you. I was in NYC a couple times though, and my friends have complained from the passenger seat about it during idle in rush hour traffic.
Chris -
You would notice a huge difference in sound, and there would be raspiness between 3k and 4k rpm if you don't choose the resonator option. It was livable for me, but annoying. Apparently, the stock exhuast flows pretty well, so changing out the cats would still net you a hefty gain, and you might free up a couple more HP if you change out the exhaust or headers down the road.
Dan
Edit - oh and the CEL did come on for me when i used 89 octane gas or less, but I put 94 in my car anyway so that wasn't an issue.

If the test pipes are "raspy" on a NA car, does it get worse with a supercharger installed. My guess is yes since the volume of air has increased. Anyone have a SC and test pipes?
