370z aftermarket exhaust on 350z (VQ35DE)
Hey Guys,
I searched a bit of the forums but didn't find a lot of response. My friend has very new aftermarket T1R cat-back exhaust from a 370z and is basically giving it to me for free if it's worth the hassle to modify it to fit my VQ35DE.
Now, I know 370z has a shorter wheelbase and I heard the entire piping is different, but do you guys know if it's worth paying a muffler shop a couple bills to customize it to fit? The T1R is true-dual, so at least it makes it slightly easier to make it fit. What do you guys think?
I know the easier way is to just buy a brand new exhaust, but if it's not too hard, I wouldn't mind giving this a try. Any mechanics know or done this before?
Thanks,
Wayne

You'd probably want to stick the exhaust under your Z on the ground just to see how close it lines up and go from there. It also depends on how much a shop wants for the work. Sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth. Are the bolt patterns the same? I'm not familiar with 370 exhaust. If they're not finding a gasket that will seal might be difficult too.
It probably won't clear the sway bar on the passenger side. Solutions to this are to modify the piping, or see if you can make an OEM 370z sway bar fit the 350z with adjustable endlinks. More than likely the piping will have to be modified, but the sway bar fitting is also a possibility.
The OEM 370z muffler sits higher than the 350z, not by much, maybe just under an inch. It makes muffler tip to bumper clearance extremely tight. It doesn't touch on the OEM muffler, but is very close. The other issue is the tip spacing. It looks similar between 350z and 370z, but it's not. Center-to-center distance of the muffler tips is about 1-1.5in wider on the 370z. Using an OEM 370z muffler, it WILL PROBABLY touch the bumper cutout on the sides. The mufflers lower hanger is also on the opposite side onthe 370z, will need to be relocated.
You can buy the chassis hanger on the passenger side from Nissan under 370z parts. The 350z has the bolt locations to mount the extra chassis hangers for the piping. It is a bolt-on affair and requires no additional modification.
I made a custom exhaust for my 350z using an OEM 370z midpipe and muffler. The tips have to be adjusted, theres no way around that. You should make sure the shop you take it to is very meticulous about symmetry, it's pretty time consuming and difficult to relocate exhaust tips so that they look OEM. Otherwise, most shops will be able to avoid the sway bar.
I avoided the sway bar issue by getting a 350EVO bar before they closed shop. For the record though, I still want to try fitting the 370z bar to the 350z, as that would be a more permanent solution, with readily available replacements.
TL;DR everything fits, add chassis hanger, avoid sway bar, relocate tips.

The sway bar on the 350Z is bent similarly to the 370Z on the side that actually has a bend in it.
Can't say anything about the duals. On the 350Z the passenger side pipe goes above the sway bar and is pretty tight. With a bend in the bar, the exhaust needs to run a tad lower to clear the bar. It'd be a small fix to get it to work.
Quickly though, the tips are a pain to get symmetric and fitted under the bumper. Making one sit properly is easy. It's making the other one sit the same way as the first that's a pain.
