Default Would love some experienced opinions on test pipes

Hey everyone, I've beaten up the search button on various reviews of test pipes, if you've got some on your Z and want to lend an opinion I'd love to hear it. I have 2005 non rev up, 5/16 md spacer, top speed 3 in cat back. Really want some test pipes. Leaning twords berks. Also considering aam. Limited budget so for under 200$ those brands work
Looking for some pros an cons from those who have them on their car. After installed ill be getting it uprev tuned. Thanks so much in advance for help, worried about rasp mostly. Don't want too much of a tinny sound. Thanks again all, up in ct under snow, can't wait for spring!

Whatever you do don't go with non resonated test pipes. Resonated is worth the extra money

Test pipes are just pipes. I believe I have Berks & had no problems for 3 years.

I've got berks, no problems with cel. I've got a stock exhaust and it opened it up a little, I love the sound. Had them when I had my invidia Gemini and LoVEd the tone. I had very little drone in the highway, and Zero rasp with that setup. I also have 5/16 spacer, test pipes and AEM CAI. Had all of that with the Gemini also. If you don't have emissions go for it, if you don't like them someone will always buy then on here for a little discount

this is probably the best advice.
I bought megan resonated pipes about 20k miles ago from a guy that had them on for about 300 miles they still looked brand new for about $100. If you look around im sure you can find a good deal. luckily didn't throw any codes. i have it with a custom dual exhaust and its pretty quiet in low rpms, but its loud and sounds aggressive at WOT. Only thing is that at WOT you do get some rasp, but not nearly as much as non resonated. non resonated test pipes are raspy and honestly sound horrible, i had a friend with some on his g35 and removed them shortly after installing them.

I have non resonated test pipes with the non fouler extensions. No lights but with HKS replica exhaust it was stupid loud, and very raspy after 3.5k. The smell people talk about is there, not headache bad tho. I now have then with stock exhaust, which is god awful after 3k. ( have some high flow cats I'm going to put on soon). I would suggest resonated if anything. But if you like the super loud go for test pipes.

If you're worried about rasp at all keep the stock cats.

Your just matching up the worst exhausts for test pipes. Also iv never owned resonated test pipes. Out of how many exhaust iv owned that should tell you something.

Search for "test pipe cracked" and see how many of those threads are about resonated test pipes. That's why I'll only get non resonated. I have the Berks paired with the injen exhaust and it sounds good. No problems whatsoever. A little rasp at WOT but it doesn't bother me.

I recently installed gtm tp combined with my greddy evo2 exhaust and it sounds like chit imo and I'm not happy about it. Done my research and read a lot of bad reviews about this combo. Made an impulsive buy despite my findings and I'm paying for it as I'm selling the tp cheaper than I bought it for just to get rid of it and going back stock or hfc.

Serious rasp at 3k rpm.... once past 3k rpm rasp goes away. It tends to stay in that raspy power ban when you're at wot shifting through gears. Not to mention, it makes my exhaust rattle. No drone or CEL (so far). During my search, read a lot of members hated the rasp while some didn't mind... mixed review got my confused but the bad review outweighs the good. I should've known better

I've had test pipes,ART pipes.Now running HFC's.
Test pipes in general are gonna be loud with a rasp.
There is also the smell. In relation to the sound,an option
to modifying the sound on TP's or HFC's is adding some
tailpipe insert resonators.I have a set on my Z.My HFC's
coupled to my Nismo catback were getting too loud.Especially
at WOT.The inserts eliminated the rasp and quiet the exhaust
tone just a bit.The ones I have are made by Schoenfeld. They
are available in various diameters to fit tailpipe tip openings.
Pretty cheap too at about 15 bucks each. You have to drill a hole
through the bottom of each tip and install a S/S screw to hold
e'm in.No big deal.I had to grind down the inner lip a bit for the inserts
to fit into the Nismo tips. They sit inside about 4" from the lip of the tip.

I've had both kinds. Straight test pipes and resonated test pipes. I actually liked my Helix straight pipes mated to my stock exhaust better than my resonated TP mated to my HKS replica.

Some have suggested I try stock OEM cats or HFC's to try and quiet down my setup.

Have headers with test pipes with hks exhaust 0 rasp, loud as hell when wot but do drone. Love the sound and out here in Cali I just throw the cats on when it's time for smog.

I got Berk test pipes with a non resonated invidia n1 set up. Hella loud, even during idle. There's also rasp from the test pipes at higher RPMs. Smell is there as well, but doesn't bother me. Also no CEL.
