Heat Defying CAI
I just got an '04 Z that came with a cold air intake. I don't want to toss it and get a Jim Wolf, so I was wondering if I can make my own heat shield... I was thinking about wrapping the intake tube with exhaust wrap or something that insulates well, and then building a heat shield around the filter cone out of aluminum and covering it in the same insulation.
Has anyone done this?

Sounds good,do it.
However, you won't feel much difference in any power for your trouble.
This topic has been discussed 100's of time. You may get some power increase
if you actually position the filter OUTSIDE of the car.Which is not very practical,
right? If you are concerned about heat etc,put the stock airbox back on with a
K&N.Results may be better than what you have.

Go for it, try set up a heat shield like what JWT uses. No need to wrap the intake tube, air is only there for a split second

Seems like a lot of work for most likely not to much of a difference like jcity said people have SOMETIMES noticed a difference in power by going to drastic measures of putting the intake outside of the engine bay. Save the time and money for some hfc or a plenum spacer

just checked out those dyno charts, suprised me a little bit but those are pretty extreme temp differences judging by what the results were they gained 24hp over 70 degrees about .3 hp per degree so if your pulling air 9 degrees cooler should be about 3hp gain. i stand corrected. always down to squeeze out extra hp where you can! go for it man

I think you should do it…would be a good project…
you don't want to use the heat wrap that you would use to wrap an exhaust, look for the heat reflective tape. Anything you can do to lower intake temps but I think might-car-mod guys de-bunk the filter intake temps…I'm torn between the two theories...
