Default HKS Replica review

I've had my car a month and always thought the stock exhaust was way too quite. I found a HKS replica exhaust for a good price with trade for my exhaust. The fit was good, it sounds great when sitting at idle or revving it up, but driving around at lower rpm and highway speed the drone is brutal. I should have keep it the way it was.

Just my 2 cents....... Maybe I'm getting too old :/

What kind of pipes are you running with the exhaust? HFC, stock casts, test pipes?

I sometimes regret the HKS replica on my Z. Still haven't figure out what I'm going to do about the sound.

I have the stock cats.

I may just put the exhaust on Craigslist and go back to stock. I thought it was too quite at the time, but now I would be happy to have quite again.

Lesson learned.

I don't like how the fake HKS exhaust sounds either. It drones like a biatch at high RPM. Sound aside it looks like crap after the fake titanium tips start to brown.

I'm surprised it's that loud with stock cats. Adding that x pipe that was mentioned should help a little bit. I haven't done that, but I can't sell my exhaust because I have no backup plan.

I'll be needing to find someone local. I don't want to bother with shipping.

Thanks

ARK exhaust, semi cheap, high quality and they made it a better design than the HKS.

OP- sounds to me like you may have "over-paid" in the first place by trading your OEM exhaust and money, but what's done is done. What year is your Z? If it's a DE and you want to go back to stock, maybe look at upgrading to an HR cat-back. The y-pipe on the HR I believe breaths a little better and bolts right up.

Your right about "what's done is done". I have a 05. I'll be on the look out for the HR cat-back.

i love my replica but to down the drone i didnt use the H pipe that came with it i used the XYZ pipe with the resonator n had a custom transition y pipe built. works nice and smooth sound isnt too loud on drone as i was coming from an AP exhaust.

Installed the HR exhaust tonight. Like they say silence is golden

It's been 2 weeks of droning and I can't tell the difference between DE and HR exhaust. Maybe if I went from DE to HR exhaust I could tell the diffence but not now.
