Thinking about doing 2.5" straight pipe from the cats.
(So keep the cats on but everything else 2.5" straight pipe.)

How would this sound on a 06 z?
Will i deal with backpressure problems or loss of hp/tq?

If its 2.5 after the y-pipe, then it will sound good.

Yes it will be 2.5 after the y pipe

 

It may sound rapsy depending on what exhaust you have...

 

It wont have exhaust, it will just be a straight piping after the Y

this is 2.5 after a motordyne xyz y-pipe w/o resonator....

If you do the same should sound similiar...the Tip is just a dual tip
