guys over 30 ...which exhaust?
I don't get any resonance on my Borla. The sound is awesome. Low rumble at just above idle turning to a deep growl when WOT. Regarding the quality, Borla Warrantees their exhaust for 1 million miles. How much better of a warranty can you possibly get.
I have it and couldn't be happier. Not loud, but just sounds meaner.

This link below I found should give you a pretty good idea how the Borla sounds at idle, WOT, etc. Check it out:

I was in the same boat and I went with the borla. (I have a Roadster so I really didn't want it too loud.)
I like that the Borla is a true dual system with a crossover pipe. That gives a nice deep tone that reminds me of muscle cars past a little. The stereo effect also gives the sound some depth.
I also happen to think V engines in general deserve duals. Split tail pipes were a sign of a dual exhaust poser back in my V-8 days.
The Borla quality is top notch. Some people here are critiquing the quality based on visual observation on the number of parts. Once assembled it is very strong and only a few people have reported leaks. (considering that it is probably the best selling system, a few complaints is not a big suprise.)
The system is guaranteed for 1 million miles. The fit and finish of all the parts is very nice. Much better than stock. It is also 12 pounds lighter than stock.
In a recent magazine test the Borla made the best power gains and was among the quietest systems. That is quite a combo.

I do think it is wise to point out that you get what you pay for. There are better quality exhausts out there, and ones that sound better, and some that are better at both. I'm not going to bring performance into the mix because it's all pretty close. Borla has the best warranty, but that's about it.
My main qualm with Borla has been the fact that I don't want my car to sound like a V8 musclecar because it isn't one.

Here is a great site with most of the exhausts for the Z listed with sound clips, if you haven't seen it:

Hmm, it is interesting that the only true dual exhaust that has been listed so far is the borlas. The new HKS true dual exhaust is one to keep an eye on, haven't heard anything about it yet, but it looks great, although very expensive.

Borla and Nismo are good considerations. Both have their strong points, and both have some faults. Both retain a stock look, but the Borla may be prone to leaks and other issues due to it's construction. The Nismo design seems to be more sound, and it is an OEM part, but it generally makes less power than the Borla. Both produce a nice and generally subdued note relative to the rest of the aftermarket offerings.

Thanks

FYI The US-Spec NISMO exhaust is made by B&B NOT NISMO. So the quality would be that of a US made exhaust and not an OEM part.

Murray -
I was speaking with one of the guys at strictly Z about buying an exhaust after they did their big exhaust shootout, but that never came to fruition.
Anyway, when we were speaking about it, I had mentioned that, while I was considering the Nismo, I was also looking at the Fujitsubo Legalis, and he informed me that Fujitsubo was behind the design of the Nismo unit. So I don't have any hard evidence, but since Strictly Z was running that exhaust comparo, I took his word for it.

I chose Stillen for the quality, perfect fit and appearance. Nice sounds in the lower RPM ranges, yet much louder when you get into the higher ranges. Also, it's a TRUE dual exhaust, unlike some of the others.
Dan,
I hadnt heard anything like that, so i can't comment. But if you do a search on the net you'll find a few things come up about it. I am 100% certain that the NISMO headers are done by B&B.
Ignore my comment on the exhaust. I just did some checking and info came up for and against, B&B + NISMO exhaust. Some sites are selling both exhausts, so they must be different, but they are only selling NISMO headers with a comment next to B&B ones saying check NISMO units.
Thanks

I went with the Nismo myself, for one it has an awesome sound and two, check out the warranty on the aftermarket exhuast out there, My dealer sponsors my car and they informed me that the Nismo exhaust is covered under factory warranty along with all the S-Tuned Nismo products.
I too think Nismo or Borla. Personally, I'm leaning towards the Nismo. It looks & sounds nicer and it doesn't void your warranty. Not that the warranty really matters. I've watched the price drop on the Nismo from 1300 to 1600 to between 800 & 900. The Borla has dropped in price as well.
Borla exhaust will only void your exhaust warranty, which doesn't matter anyways because you're replacing it. Like I said before, the Borla exhaust has a 1 million mile warranty on it. How can you do better than that?
