Default HFC Question

Well turns out that one of my cats is destroyed on the inside and needs a replacement. In terms of a HFC, is there a certain brand that will last? I don't want to end up purchasing another replacement 20,000 miles later. I got a good deal on a set of Berks but heard nothing but issues with them. Essentially I know people will flame for posting about a silly question but the threads I've searched and saw were from 3 years ago and want to get an updated answer.

HFCs are NOT made to last. The internals are usually 200-300cells and will burn out in 2-3 years. The OEM should last 100K miles if you don't put in bad gas (leaded). You can get *take offs* from the classifieds here. BTW, HFCs will not get you any real benefit other than louder sound. I know from experience>>>> car drives better and gets better gas mi with OEM cats.

All cats from 2003 to 2006 (DE) are the same. HRs (2007-2008) are different.
Also look on G35 forum..they have em for sale..same cat at 350Z. Only the 07 Sedan is different (HR motor).

I've had Berk HFC's on my 06 Rev Up since Oct. 2009 and haven't had any issues with them I did get a tune when I had them installed and I'm sure that has helped.

I think I'm gonna go with the Berks, to spend $200 on used Cats only to worry that they may go bad soon since their used. Plus, the car is a summer car, it won't be driven too much.

+1 on Kinetix, sound great, felt slight improvement on the butt dyno, and they've held up well so far with nearly 25,000 miles on them

Never had any issues with the Stillen HFC's I had. I probably only put a couple thousand miles on them though so can't confirm their longevity.

I thought I read that one of these HFC aren't direct bolt ons and needed modifications to the brackets, anyone know of that?

Berks will bolt on to stock brace. Other may also have tabs to bolt brace on. You can see if they have TABS welded on for the brace...it's obvious.
