Hello, just joined the forum so this is a bit of intro and first post. Owner of a 2008 350z base Takeda Dual short ram intakes and Tanabe Medallion Touring exhaust. Hope to start adding new parts more frequently.
I recently purchased a Megan racing(yes i know its cheap) HR y pipe, it looks much better than I expected. the piping is quite large compared to stock, the welds look decent, time will tell i suppose as to how quality the material is.
Should get it mounted in a few days and will report. I'm curious as to how it will effect the sound, I'm assuming a little louder but I don't really know what to expect. The exhaust I have is 2.75" diameter so hopefully that is large enough to where it doesn't create too much of an issue with exhaust flow. The y pipe exit is 3" but its acutally a little smaller than that when i measure the inside of the piping and still its only .25" smaller. The y pipe looks like it will flow much better than the stock piece, hopefully it will have a nice sound too.
I'll report with more pics/ comments.
Should work well for you, not the best but.... Only bad thing about it is the merge point, I can't believe Megan and all the others haven't copied the newer better designed Y pipes
Ive had 2 of these. I noticed no change in tone or HP. I have recently went to true dual set up and wow. The butt dyno increased tremendously. As far as quality i never jad them longer than two months. The second one the megan badge came loose and rattled so bad i had to tear it off.
Well I got it on today, took the help of a few buddies but it wasnt too bad. hardest part was getting the car jacked up high enough and then getting the cat>y-pipe bolts free. once we got that done it was a piece of cake.
Not much louder than before, but it does sound alittle different. Im happy with it, I know its got to flow better than the stock piece, and weighs less, so its still a good addition for $150 bucks. If it rusts out quickly or the welds don't hold I can go back to the stock piece. no new pics sorry, we were rushing to get it done before nightfall.
the inside diameter of the y>mid pipe connections was pretty minimal when compared side by side. No strange sounds, no "rasp" although it was little more crackle poppy which I like.
Steel gauge is very thin if I recall correctly, weakest point in the cheaper exhaust components. There have been several comparisons in the past but are very old threads.
i have mix feelings. i hate it since it bares the megan name, but at the same time im neutral since the price isnt bad. if it had been me, i wouldve just gone true duel at once. sounds better, performes better. whats to hate other than price tag.
I went with the tanabe medallion touring because I liked how it sounded like the stock exhaust sound but louder.
I have always like the 350z sound since they came out when i was in high school.
True dual is awesome too but more than i wanted.
after driving with the megan y pipe for a day it definitely sounds different, I can hear it abit louder, especially with the windows up, and it has a throatier/ rawer sound to it.
