Muffler Delete Caused Loud Whistling At High RPM
Hey guys, first post here but I've been lurking for two years since buying my 2003 350Z. Recently, I had my muffler deleted by a local shop and I LOVE the way it sounds. I was looking for that distinct VQ sound only a little louder than stock, and that's exactly what I got. So no 'muffler deletes sound terrible' shitposting please, I quite like how it sounds; However, at WOT the car makes a deafening (and extremely embarrassing) whistling noise starting at about 5,000-5,500 RPM.
The shop is going to take another look at it tomorrow, but I can't really find any solutions online anywhere so I'm not sure what to even have them do. We have verified none of the welds are leaking. The entire exhaust is stock besides the muffler delete, 2.25" pipe was used (same as stock) as well as the stock tips. For the split, they welded a pipe into the bend of a 45, so that's where I believe the whistle is coming from, but anyone with experience please lend any help you can. Thanks.

lol that "fix" probably makes it more restrictive than stock, just louder.. no smooth bends, i bet there are still sharp edges inside.. and the crush bends.. If an exhaust shop did that to my car id be more than pissed.

To each there own with the muffler delete l, but honestly those welds and that connection looks horrible. I hope u didn't pay more than 25-50 bucks to have this done. I wouldn't pay a dime for that honestly
They charged me $80, yeah it was an exhaust shop that did it but they were dismissive about all of my requests. It's hideous and I'm sure it's not ideal, but my car is mostly stock and I'm happy with the sound, so I could honestly care less. This is not a permanent setup, I can't afford a full exhaust setup on my broke *** college student budget and this gave me exactly the sound I wanted, so whatevs.
$80 well spent imo.
A 350z without a muffler actually sounds really good and reduces weight by like what 20lbs?
(not sarcasm)
A real y-pipe probably would have doubled the price since the shop would mark it up a lot.

I see nothing wrong with what he paid for. He paid $80 and got an $80 job. It isn't going to negatively affect performance AT ALL. The cats are still the most restrictive part of the exhaust.
Yes, the shop owner said using a y-pipe would make things more difficult (I HIGHLY doubt it especially after they had to hack that together) and more expensive. I knew I was getting what I paid for, and I was okay with that because I love how my car sounds now. It's my daily and I just wanted the signature VQ sound just a little louder than stock. If I start dumping money into the car obviously I'm going to put in an actual exhaust system, but that's going to be at least two years from now, so this will hold me over. Thanks for being the only one not flaming me @iideadeyeii
I'm the KING of cheap/reliable work. My full turbo set-up with tune cost me around $1800.
Turbo'ed my old wrangler for about $300 and two days of my work
Turbo'ed a Kia Sephia for about $500
Painted multiple cars for under $50
Here's one that's still on google images
This cost me about $30 I think. Didn't tape ANYTHING
