With popular opinion that our factory intake systems are already very efficient, all I did was replace the factory air filter with a NISMO sports air filter. Then I thought, "This NISMO Sports Air Filter Dry Type sticker on my factory air box isn't enough. I need to make the technician at the dealership think I'm a badass...but how?"
I've considered replacing the stock intake pipe on my DE with a polished aluminum piece like this: https://www.nengun.com/kts/cool-power-suction-kit, and combining that with a carbon air filter box that replaces the factory piece.
I've looked around but have been unable to find a stand-alone carbon air filter box that works with the factory-shaped piping and filter. The limited results my Google-fu produced included only carbon air filter boxes that are part of entire intake kits, like this: http://simotausa.com/Nissan350Zcarbo...tem-1-1-1.aspx
Can anyone help me with this?
On a side note, I've read different opinions of whether or not the NISMO sports air filter is a "lifetime" filter like the K&N. For what it's worth, the cleaning instructions that came with the filter advise that it should be cleaned every 4,000 km and then replaced after 24,000 km of use.
Get 6 or 8 more of those NISMO stickers and put them on every available surface :P
Aluminum piping will heat soak faster than the OE plastic tube, but I agree it does look better. You can avoid the heat soak by wrapping the tube in fiberglass or similar, which will still look like a cool custom mod to the tech, but you can also do that to the plastic tube for the same effect haha.
Edit - You could look into having your stock plastic intake hydro-dipped with a carbon pattern. Kinda lame, but it might look real.

For some people there is a certain impression when you have nice parts that are rare/expensive, it depends who you talk to I guess.
I understand this and at the same times don't understand it. I'm not a huge 'parts guys' but I have no problem with the guys that are. It makes sense to me.
My $.02 (which is highly devalued because I'm a jaded old guy who is hard to impress... get off my lawn dagnabbit! )...
Unless a part actually contributes to a genuine performance gain, I'm not impressed. (Like... seeing a polished Vortech pulley bracket or a big FMIC or somesuch, my eyes get big.) But as was said by bealljk as well, I have respect for anything people wanna do, parts wise. Their cars, not mine.
As far as air boxes for aftermarket intake kits that completely enclose the air filter from the engine bay and work with your OEM intake pipe, your options are fairly limited.
GruppeM Intake Kit
Arc Super Induction Box
Stillen Hi-Flow Intake Kit
There are probably some more out there, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
