I would just like to say, my plenum was installed friday and the car seems to get more responsive each day ( i guess till the ecu gets used to the additions ) the sound I get from the exhaust is similar to a ferrari or lambo....overall I am happy with the plenum and Im sure the revised ones will be trouble free .....I think I was the first one to use a high temp RTV in the install so it was very easy to achieve a tight seal with minimal torque on the flange bolts.....and BTW the plenum never gets hot

"Ditto" all of your remarks on the Plenum. Time permitting, disconnect your battery for twelve hours. Should solve addition problems with ECU immediately upon reconnecting and starting. Knowing my Plenum was arriving and installation would take place on the 5th, disconnected battery on the evening of the 4th. NO ECU problems.

Even after reading this thread and knowing that my plenum will be here tomorrow, I have no concerns. If I can't get the thing to seal correctly or keepit from cracking, I know that LSD will stand to his word and replace it if necessary. Hopefully I will not run across any problems and will be able to keep version 1 so that he doesn't have to go through the hassle of replacing mine.

Hopefully I will be remembered when I place an order for the cat pipe!!

Good luck to you, I hope everything goes smoothly.

The high temp RTV is a good idea.

lsdunique, how much high temp rtv is recommended to use? About 1/8 of bead or just a light smear all around the gasket? should I put it on plastic plenum side or engine side? Thanks..

I would ask duflacci, I have never used the stuff on the plenum, but he seemed to have a good experience with it.

Just smear a thin film over the cork gasket attached to the plenum.....Ed

just remember to use a little finesse when torquing the flange bolts

We have decided to go ahead with a revision to the plenum that will allow a much higher torque rating on the main flange bolts.

We have had a few customers had cracking problems due to over tightening . While we ourselves never had this problem when we did the install several times on our own car, I have come to understand that their isnt enough margin of error.

People having problems with the installation is not acceptable and we believe this product should be able to be installed by the average "do it your selfer".

We want to feel completely confident in our product, which we were when we sent them out, but we have lost some our confidence in its ease of installation. The plenum can be installed succesfully the way it stands, but people should not have to worry about the difficulty of the install or the longevity of the product.

Our revision includes a threaded shoulder insert in each flange hole, which is also adhered in as well as threaded in. This coupled with the shoulder in which the bolt clamps down on should give us at least twice the torque capabilities. We will finalize numbers and give a new torque rating.

We have postponed todays shipment of plenums, so I apologize if I told you that it was shipping today, but we made the decision to take action now, and give peace of mind to our customers. This will push us back about 2 days.

I want tp sincerely apologize to people who have already received our plenum and have had problems, or are worried about problems. If you are satisfied with the install and everything works well for you, I leave the decision up to you whether you want your plenum updated.

We are offering to pay for shipping expenses back to us, where we will update the plenum with inserts free of charge. Also, if you experienced any cracks, we will take care of that as well. We are updating our mold to get rid of some casting imperfections in the interior of the plenum. We will also smooth out these imperfections, make sure your gasket is in good condition and replace if necessary. We will make these plenums are a top priority and we have already scheduled late hours to offer a 1-2 day turnaround where they will be shipped back to you.

I personally apologize for any inconvenience this may cause or have caused to you. Also note that if your plenum is installed succesfully, you may choose to not send it back, but that will not change the fact that you are entitled to the offer at any time down the road. So you can choose to leave it installed, and if problems arise later, then we will still pay to ship your plenum back, get updated, and shipped back to you with the same priority.

We had some small issues with a couple different things, like too much sealant and coolant block problems. With so many variables in the production, those 2 mistakes slipped through on our first batches, we apologize and you can be assured that issues are addressed promptly. These are our mistakes. Our production at this point is running very smoothly.

So while this update may cost us a small chunk of change, and increase the overall production costs of future plenums, I want to say that we do stand behind our products 100%. I take customer satisfaction personally and while there are only about 20 plenums out there without inserts, I want to make sure every one of those customers is happy.

Anyone with questions or details for getting their plenum updated please email me at jamisonl@msn.com

If you have not received your plenum yet, be assured the one you receive will be worry free.
I had the version 1 ad installed it myself and it cracked around one of the bolts, wrote them & they send me a version 2 and the holes did not line up too good and the thing cracked apliying the recommended torque on the last bolt
this happen on saturday 20th 2004 and wrote the kinetik guys that night. six hours later I have two cracked plenums on my dinning room table and the stock plenum on the car

I have no idea what you guys are doing to this poor thing. I installed mine last week. I used some Blue RTV on the entire cork gasket and I have not had a problem since. The only thing that i noticed was that the center posts were exactly long enough to reach the plenum top. There were cork gaskets on there as well and they didn't allow the plenum to seat all the way down. I removed the cork gasket there and used some blue RTV to seal it and the plenum fit down perfectly. Only one bolt was misaligned and it was ever so slightly at that. I torqued the plenum down with a 1/4 drive ratchet very lightly and still had no leaks. Maybe you guys should calm down and torque them down nice and snug, but not so damn hard!!!

Not sure if it has been disscused before but what about molding in in some knurled steel sleeves in the mounting holes? Or do the new version have them?

Version 2 has the metal sleeve around the flange holes. I installed my version 2 on Monday, and I didn't use RTV gasket maker this time. I then tighten it down with my hand (without torque wrench), and NONE of them crack. I also have no air leak, and everything works great!

Version 2 is really a lot easier to install. If you can crack it, you must be Mr. Olympic or something..

Im still running with the version one and have had no problems since the intial prototype plenum when I was first testing it.

please be patient when waiting for replacement plenums as LSD had way more orders in than he can handle! Each plenum takes way more than 4-5 hours to fabricate and then all the holes and flanges need to be installed.

Default Out of it

Wow!

I can't believe that I didn't see this one, although the site has been having some "issues"

I have not had a single day's problem with my V2 Plenum since I installed it and as I have stated before, out of all my mods, it is the ONLY one that has immediately increased power performance! It is incredible how much stronger the car pulls with it.

In case there are some who have not seen it, I created some Installation Instructions which does include info on using Permatex Ultra-Copper RTV. I only used a thin bead of about 1/16th of an inch. I honestly don't think that it is even necessary since you can torque the bolts down MUCH better now, I just used it for my own piece of mind and as I said... no problems.

It's the best "Bang for your Buck" N/A mod available IMHO.
