Which would you choose, and why?
there's about $50 difference in price... is the quality of the Crawfords any better? Any fitment issues with either?
How does the sound compare?

I've done my research, and have come to the opinion the Crawford is the better product. Not that the Kinetixs are bad, they are not. They are made by Magnaflow I believe, and are a good product. The Crawford on the other hand is $37.00 more expensive, is made in house by "Z" lovers, and from what I've seen flows a bit better. It also has none of that raspy sound you hear about with the R/Ts.

I guess it's personnel opinion, but I'm going with the Crawforrds.

 

Sorry for being a noob guys, but I was just wondering what a plenum is? Is it the catalytic convertor or some sort? Anyone know where I can get the Crawford plenum? Thanks

Crawford has a full line of performance products. The plenum and the catalytic (cat) converters are two products in their arsenal.

The Plenum is a replacement item that replaces the stock plenum, aka the top of the intake manifold. It works on the intake side. The High Flow Cats are also a replacement item that replaces the restrictive stock catalytic convertors.

The stock plenum has a rather steep angle that research proves starves the front two cylinders of air. Crawford reworks the stock plenum so that the air is evenly distributed to all six cylinders. This is a good mod. As stated above, the cats replace the stock restrictive ones with free flowing devices on the exhaust side. This is also a good mod.

There's been nothing to show if either one flow better, but it's safe to say that they are constructed pretty much the same so gains should be close to equal. Living in CA, you'll probably save on shipping with the Kinetix so if you need a suggestion, I'd go with Kinetix for the better price and cheaper shipping costs.

I went for the Kinetix cats.

Good quality product and a good fit.
Can’t fault them myself.

Shipping times left a bit to be desired though.

Can anyone offer sound clips of either product coupled with the STOCK exhaust system? Written descriptions/impressions would help, too.
Also, do these high-flow cats free up enough power to be felt when driving? Dyno numbers/track times don't mean much to me... driving impressions are what matter the most.
Any more thoughts?

Yes, I dowloaded your clips earlier. The sound was rather 'sharp' and unrefined to my ear, but recordings are generally a poor substitute for the real thing.
In words, how would you describe the change in sound when you added the hf cats?

To be honest the sound is not that loud. As well as the z looking like a performance car it now has the sound to match the looks.
In normal driving (i.e. just a few mph above legal) around town it’s not bad and I don’t find it obtrusive. Only when you start stomping on the pedal and the revs start rising above 3500 does it start coming into its own.

I was already running the car with the nismo exhaust which sounds great. So I had got used to that sound. A few weeks later and I fitted the cats. The sound did increase after installing the cats but like I say its certainly not to wild.

Well worth doing in my opinion.
