Default K and n typhoon is it best intake out there?

everyone in here seems to like the JWT pop charger along with me, but that typhoon seems to have the best of both worlds. Closing off any type of hot air getting in via the carbon fiber airbox, and duct that goes down and brings cold air up . so hear you have a short ram intake with cold air ducting genious or scam? at least no water would be able to be sucked up. Anyone out there runninng one of these units?

I have one and love it. But I'm interested in trying to make an adapter to use the JWT filter.

Curious, how is the JWT filter different that is requires a adapter? Not doubting, really want to know.

The JWT mounts directly to the stock MAF tube (four screws). The K & N mounts like a typical CAI- the filter is fitted onto the pipe and tightened with an O-ring clamp.
Need to make a small adapter that will slip onto the pipe and have the 4 holes for mounting the JWT.

i too have the typhoon intake and like it alot. however, the airbox isnt carbon fiber, its metal with a carbon fiber top cover. also, you have to take it easy in the rain (no wot in heavy rain), 'cause of the increased risk of inhaling some water, but with the z you have to take it easy in the rain anyway.

I wouldn't worry about rain too much with the K&N. I had the Injen on my car prior and ran through numerous heavy downpours here in the bay area with no trouble.
Hydrolock is what you're really worried about and you would have to completely submerge the filter to induce it.
The nice thing about the K&N (like the JWT) is that they are pretty much isolated from risk of hydrolock because they sit under the hood and not in the grill.

i don't think you can beat the JWT right now as far as performance and price.....i am however going to wait for someone to come out with a similar design to the k&n with maybe a carbon fiber or plastic air box instead of that metal one.....

right now i am happy with the k&n drop in filter...i would like to add a cooling plate to direct more air into the intake but the only one available right now seems to be designed for the japan model z which has a smaller intake inlet

I have the K&N and love it and the design as well. Look for more info in terms of dyno's, install, etc on Project ActiveTuning

IMHO it is the best of both worlds...

but I would still pick the JWT over it since its less $ for the same performance...

We are going to be working on our own CAI for the Z as soon as we get moved into the new shop. Let me know what you guys are looking for to make the best system. We use the S&B filters. They are a cone style but also have an inlet at the top for increased flow: http://www.clearimageautomotive.com/...s/SBFilter.gif

I think if you were to devise a box for the JWT popcharger to enclose it and make it pressurerise like the oem intake system at speed, you'd have the prefect intake.

Ok granted, but I'm talking about a box bigger in size and one that is truely sealed to pressurerise, which many feel is a big reason to not go with aftermarket intakes.

I bought the Typhon ment for the Z, I'm going to do what it takes to adapt it to my sedan. I would have bought the popcharger, but I didn't feel it's current side shield was a good starting point to fab a better mouse trap. I may end up having to fab something anyhow out of sheet lexan to end up with what I want, well see.

I honestly feel the difference and think the stock air box with a oem drop in kn air filter is the best, feels like there is more of broader range or power

Best intake IMHO would be a ceramic coated Injen pipe with a Gruppe-M intake box.

The K&N kit seems to attract too much heat.
