Well, my cats ending up cracking, didnt fit right, and were raspy, so I called them and told them I wanted an exchange for a plenum. They then explained what they are doing with them and told me they "should" be able to ship it out by monday for me ( free of charge )

Thanks Kinetix!

Now to order some Crawford high flows..

I think most of the Kinitex problems are end users. I can see how someone would end up cracking the plenum while tightening it down. You have to use caution, common sense and torque it down in the right manner. I think he did a good job by going back and making a newer version with the inserts. Of course this is just my opinion, but when I installed it I noticed how some of these guys might get in a hurry and end up cracking it.

As far as why I chose it, cost, light wieght, and I keep all the factory parts in there stock location like the strut tower brace. I also have my stock plenum that I can bolt on if there was ever a problem or I needed to sell the car. It definitely gave a power increase, but mostly up top. It doesn't fall off in the higher RPM's so when you shift to the next gear you're pulling that much harder. It should at least yeild higher trap speeds in the 1/4.

I hate to see alot of people bash a product they have never used. Since I own one and installed it I can see where there would be problems and most of them can be addressed before hand. I hope this is a honest review of the product and will help you make your choice.

Thanks Mike

What I wonder about is the great looking kinetex plenum that was supposed to be exclusively for FI. From my understanding, this plastic plenum was supposed to be for N/A, while they were going to produce the great looking plenum with intake runners for FI applications. Now I hear they are reinforcing the plastic plenum for FI, are they still going to produce the metal plenum with intake runners for FI??

These are the changes for v3.

- increasing the amount of material around the flange holes

- cross bracing stemming from the 2 center support holes to reduce flexing

- increased material around the front center support (receives most of the stress from flexing)

- increased the center support from .5" diameter to .75" which effectively almost triples the surface area to create a seal and to displace tension from flexing.

- now use a fiberglass filled plastic which increases overall strength, resistance to cracking, and also increases its heat resistance.

What are you appalled about? That they are making improvements? Or that they are making them quickly? Would you rather that no improvements were made? Or maybe that they should wait a year or so and then make changes?

Back to the original question:
I think the Kinetix plenum is a better design than the Crawford since it allows you to keep the stock strut bar, makes similar gains, and is less expensive (or lets you keep the stock plenum). It sounds like the quality issues are being addressed rapidly and with a good attention to customer service.

I think the latest Crawford plenum looks beautiful, and it is obviously very well proven. The only downsides are cost and the inability to keep the stock strut bar (which many don't really care about anyway).

If you have to buy one right away, and are worried about the quality of the Kinetix version, then get the Crawford. If you are willing to wait, maybe you can see what people are finding with the latest Kinetix release. Or, you can just buy the Kinetix now, and if something goes wrong you can work with them on a solution. It sounds like they have been quite good with customer service up to this point. I think that the version you prefer will come down to which areas you feel are most critical. If I were buying, I'd go with the Kinetix and make sure that I had reached an "understanding" with the MFG in case any quality issues arose.

These are MAJOR improvements!! Well done Kinetix! Let's see some pictures of the V3 if anyone has them. If you have underside picture, that would be very helpful. Maybe we can compare the difference..

Thanks!

I installed my Kinetix plenum on saturday with no problems, but I do have a problem now. I did not want to use permanent LocTite so I used the removable LocTite. I did this because I will be going F/I soon and was worried that I would snap a bolt when changing Plenums. My problem is that the bolts are coming partially loose on a daily basis and I have to retighten them. Kinetix owners any input is appreciated. They are properly torqued also.

Well that is what they told me over the phone, monday... I did not receive an email from them today telling me it shipped out, so I suppose there will be a delay until then.

Locktite shouldn't require any torque to hold, so that shouldn't be an issue.

However, if there is any grease, dirt, or oil on the screws or in the mating holes, the locktite will not hold nearly as well. You might want to try cleaning the screws and holes, or maybe go with the non-removeable loctite and just use a little bit.

I think 90% of the Kinetix issues are ones with the install, not the plenum itself. I installed a V2 on my car a few weeks ago, and had zero issues with the fitment of anything - the plenum is very well supported and braced. All holes lined up 100%, and the instructions were perfectly written.

I am not a mechanically inclined person, and even I was able to install it in about an hour, without incident

hmmm sounds like the only problem is install im guess because its a plastic looking material correct? i have only seen pictures of the plenum, when i saw it i was amazed plastic could hold the pressure and such coming through....but i cant say anything about the product until i see it in person...also what are the #'s running from this plenum or guestimated #'s to run from this plenum? how much power are we looking at?

I dont think its the end users, I have installed 2 plenums, and they both have cracked, right where the front centerbolt is. Used a torque wrench and all.

They did not crack right away, only 5 days later. Seems like the plenum expands and contracts allot.
