Default NISMO CAI - Post up ISSUES with this Intake

Well, about to break the modding ice with a Nismo CAI and a grounding kit. Im gonna do both at the same time to see how they work together.

The grounding kit doesnt matter, they are all the same with regard for functionality (within reason, of course)

The intake, however, is what concerns me. Has anyone here had any issues whatsoever with this intake?? Any CEL's? Any "stalling at high speeds"? Warantee voiding? Blown MAF sensors?

Lets hear it... and sticky this thread Mods, if it ends up getting responses. Its good to know what modifications work and what mods break things...

nismo intake doesnt carry any warranty. its an Rtune part, thus is the same to nissan as if it were injen or AEM.

dont expect any gains, none that can be proven on a dyno or by intake temps anyway. better ways to spend 230$ IMO. like half way to a plenum, or a set of test pipes. or even half as much to get the exact same look and performance on a popcharger.

I've had mine on for almost a year... not one problem.... and I can't tell if there are any performance gains other than the whooshing sound when accelerating

Ares is right... don't expect any gains and unless you just really WANT the intake, spend the money on something else...

I have had my Nismo CAI for about a year. Great addition the sound and my dyno numbers were 6 hp over stock.
No problems with it all.

As for R tune there is no warranty on the product but if installed by your dealer it will not void your regular warranty.

jckolnturn::::

the hiss noise is ok. At 3000 rpm the intake opens a bit more and the causes the hiss sound. totally ok and natural.

As for know problems, the CAI should not be used (IMO as well as others) if you are in a low lying area that floods easily in heavy rains. If the filter is dipped in a DEEP puddle it can suck up water like a straw, and cause engine damages. RARE but it can happen.
If you live in an area with lots of puddles and no run off, you might consider a pop charger instead. It will change the sound of the car, is cheaper than a CAI and the filter is located in the upper engine compartment instead the lower like the CAI. Some have said the pop charger will also give you 3 to 6 hp as well.

I have had both. But I will tell you that if you intended on showing the car even at a local show, the CAI is almost a requirement. The judges will view the POP charger as second string. I personanly liked the sound of the pop charger and had not single problme with it. But my observation of the judges was
that they were not impressed.

Hope this helps.

my NISMO came with the bypass valve so my car is good to cross small bodies of water, no problem.

Can you feel the difference between the Nismo and the popcharger?

i met a fellow z owner on one of the track days i went to, and he advised me to remove the bypass valve because it was disrupting airflow to the MAF. i dont know if this is true or not because i havent tried it, but i will soon. he claimed that i'll see a few whp increase.

I can see how that might be true but there are disuptions at all the couplers as well and there's nothing you can do about that, except get a pop charger.
