Kinetix Cracking Poll
I just want to get an idea of how many plenum's are cracking compared to how many are out there. On the forum, you always hear about the ones that had problems but its difficult to gage how common of a problem it is. For me, the plenum is definately being considered but the cracking problem is somewhat prohibiting. I know they will replace it for free if it does crack, but I'd rather just avoid the trouble if I can.
I don't have one, because I'm waiting for the upper and lower plenum replacement piece.
IMO, I really dont think its a big deal. The plenum has a lifetime warranty, so If it cracks you'll get a new one.

To be fair, the poll should take into consideration which version (V1, V2 or V3)! There are some of us who still have V1 and have experienced NO problems. While others have, to include those with V2. I have only seen one (1) reported problem with V3. Kinetix is an "outstanding" company with "exceptional" customer support.
I had an order in for a V.2 plenum but cancelled it when someone posted that they had cracked theirs. I may buy one in the future after it is proven not to crack. A lot of people probably feel the same way I do. Even if the plenum is warrantied, I dont want to go through the hassle of getting it repaired/replaced.
I feel confident kinetix will get this thing right (maybe they already have with V.3), but until they do, their plenum is not for me.

warrenties are only good if they problem is a mistake not a flaw. if the casting on a specific part had an issue, a weak spot, whatever and cracked, fine, new one will work. but on the V1 and V2 the problem was in the design, a perfect part still cracked. replace it 100times and itll just be luck that one doesnt crack.
hopefully V3 changes all that. we shall see.

Good point Ares, thats exactly how I feel and thats whats stopping me from getting the plenum up to this point. Also, you guys are right in that I should have placed a seperate selection for which version people have. But, I think its safe to assume that most of them are version 1 and 2 since those are the weakest and thats what most people have so far. But, if anyone has a V3 and it cracked, please let us know.
Also, If a Moderator wants to change the poll to include a seperate option for specifying whether it was a version 1, 2, or 3 that cracked, that would be nice!
Thanks to everyone so far who participated in the thread and the poll.

V2 with no problems. If you follow the instructions, you will not crack it. Some people are not mechanically inclined or experienced mechanics and they should have it installed by a mechanic that understands torques. You can not just crank it down like metal. But, it was not hard to install if you know what your doing. It works great and Kinetix is the best.
For those that push the handling of their car (race tires, suspension, etc.) and routinly hit over a G on the road, a strut bar is VERY helpful. It helps to keep the outside tire camber as set.

quite a few rather mechanicly inclined members have installed it, and it still cracked.
if it werent an issue other than crappy installation, there wouldnt be a V3. kinetix recognized there was a problem. they could have just kept sending them out figuring eventually it wouldnt crack. but they didnt, they changed things.

Kinetix "Customer Service" will resolve your problem! If you have a V1 and it cracked or you just want to replace it, done! If you have a V2 and it cracks and you want to replace it, done! If you have V1 and are thinking of going to FI and to be safe, you want to replace it, done! I don't think we can ask for much more? We wanted their product and they delivered. Unfortunately, the weakness in the products is being discovered by us the consumer.
But, like me, there are many of us out there who are extremely happy with the Kinetix Plenum despite problems. Again, it comes back to GREAT customer service!

got my v.3 today; didn't install it yet though. if i keep havin problems and updates continue to come out, it's cost effective to keep tryin due to the warranty. if i crack this one without a good reason either from my end or kinetix', then i will probly switch. hopefully someone will come out with a more cost effective option than crawford's ($800). i'll try to get it in this weekend. how hard's the old one to get off considerin the loctite on the bolts?
Bigshow: surprisingly easy, despite my gobs of loctite. Probably because I didn't clean the parts before applying the loctite. This time I actually used activator on the internal bolts.
I didn't use the poll, because no options fit me.
I cracked the v2. (and yes, I'm fairly mechanically inclined!)
I've installed the v3 and have had no problems.

yeah, i don't see how a smart, everyday guy couldn't put this on without screwin it up. we didn't have any probs except for the now countersunk bolt hole in front of the tb (stock bolt wasn't long enough), and gettin the screws in the support posts (didn't line up the best). we didn't check torque on the bolts, just snugly tightened them down. really, too tight or too loose on the bolts is not gonna cause the crackin where most people r experiencin it.
what was the reason for the crackin to begin with? just a weak spot there at the front support post, or what? i noticed different bolts to screw into the new posts; mayb the old ones were causin some problems.
