Crawford vs Rt high flow cats
I was speaking with jason at performance nissan about high flow cats and he said that the RT cats are by far the best when it comes to power to the wheels. does anyone have any dyno results with the cats in place, both crawford cats and rt data would be nice to have when considering which to go with. i know the RTs are known to fall apart but J assures me that that is not common, although it seems like everyones have fallen or are falling apart. thanks for the input.
i have the r/ts as well. no problems (yet).
but i believe theres some test data somewhere here, where they tested test pipes, r/ts, crawford, and kinetix. i believe they tested the flow rates. of course the test pipes did the best. a close 2nd was r/t. followed by crawford and then kinetix. thats what i remember reading a while back, try a search to find the exact data.

mgl...your memory is correct.
Straightpipes were the best,...RT flowed about 85% of the air of an SP, Crawfords and Kenetics were close..but about 70%....and the stock cats were about 50%.
This was Cheston's flowbench test...which may or may not replicate real world results. But I feel pretty comfortable saying the RT's will perform the best....just behind the straight pipes. With TT's the stock cats are sucking up about 40whp. Switch to RT's and you gain about 25whp back. So as you can see...the flowbench test is not totally translatable to read world dyno WHP.
Also, there have literaly been many many 100's of these RT cats sold..and only a handful...mayb 5...have collapsed. That is less than 1% defect...and they are warrantied for 2 years. I would not let that deter you from buying them. I am very happy with mine.
Also, many of the guys that destroyed them did so on the track. Constant WOT is never good for any cats...too much fuel in the cats will killl them quickly. If I did track stuff, I would just swap to a straight pipe for those days.
If and when my RT's blow up...i will just gut them.
Oh wait...I am moving to NC....cats arent really required...since there is no smog check! Woohoo!! Just an OBDII scan.
They dont even pop the hood!!!!!!!!!!!

From what I've read....and someone please correct me if I'm wrong...none of the cat's rasp. The rasp comes if you get the test pipes.
I wish I know what this "rasp" was...or how bad/loud it was. I'd love to just get test pipes...but people say it's REALLY annoying. Any confirmations?
My buddy has a 300Z TT with test pipes and it sounds fine as far as I'm concerned...but I don't know if that's a good comparison.

If they do , I would consider the Crawfords.

can someone please record this rasp so we can all know what it actually sounds like from in the cabin, or driving by under load out side the car. this will deffinatly play into my decision.
Here's my .02 from past experience in the field ...
It is unknown to me whose core the Crawford cats use, but I do know it is not the same Carsound core used in the Kinetix like many have been led to believe. I have been curious as their casing did not look like the typical Carsound ones I'm use to seeing, so naturally I inquired Crawford via PM and confirmed this to be the case. So, the flow bench data that has been passed around do not pertain to the Kinextix cats.
As mentioned, the Kinetix cats use the core from Carsound, who makes arguably one of the best hi-flow cats in the business both in performance, quality and durability. They also flow extremely well ... even better than the Random Technology (RT) units on the flow bench for the applications I was involved in. Now, I can't say this will play out exactly the same in this particular application; for the 350Zs and G35s.
With that said, the Kinetix cats may be the ones to get with great price to boot! I no longer have access to flowbenches, but it would be nice if whomever (Cheston? Technosquare?) flow benched the others could also do the same w. the Kinetix/Carsound just for kicks. Oh, and one shouldn't read the flow bench data like the Bible. In the real world, things tend to not follow the ideal. RT, Crawford, or Kinetix are all probably very close to each other at the flow rate we’re dealing with. Reliability? Well, that’s a whole another issue!
