Angry AEM + Texas Rain = Dead Z

If you're in TX or watch the weather, you know it's been pretty bad here in San Antonio. And for some reason they put crubs on the side of ALL the access roads to help "direct" run off rain...well it directs it alright....it keeps it from running off at all. So there was so much water on the access roads it was almost comming over my hood just driving 10 MPH. Well wouldn't you know it....car just dies. I manage to get it started again after about 4 attempts, but can't get the RPMs to go over 3,000 without dying. So I just cruise down the access road at 10 MPH all the way home and immediately take the intake apart. FULL OF WATER, all the way up to the throttle body. I was so pissed. I got it all dried off and cleaned out. Then I attached a K&N Filter directly to the bottom of the MAFS turning it into a POP Charger of sorts. I also put a heat shield around the engine side of the filter around the bottom too.

Definately beware of water if you've got an AEM Intake.

I'll have pictures of my new setup tomorrow sometime.

Lucky as hell you didn't hydrolock the engine.

Reason #1 I WILL NOT run a CAI if it's a rainy area. Stock is PERFECT... the JWT sounds cool.

As long as it is running now it should be fine. After all the insides of the engine see plenty of H2O anyway as it is a by-product of combustion.

This has happened to me before on one of my older cars... but I achieved hydrolock Glad that the extent of your experience only was a scare, as mine was a complete headache trying to get the motor fixed.

there is a bypass valve that you can order for cai's if you're worried about sucking up water.

Yeah I know I'm lucky....did scare the hell out of me though.

Why would I even drive in those conditions? Well, if you've ever been to San Antonio, you'll know. When I drove to work there wasn't a cloud in the sky...come out and it's pouring.

Got a couple pics of my new setup...do I send them to someone to post them on here?
