Pull the pipes off the car and take them to a shop and say its for your track-only (race) car. May have a better chance as it's probably only against their rules to touch a street car's cats.

Does anyone know where to get the injen setup? I want to get test pipes but don't want the fart sound you guys are talking about. I was gonna go with the helix but i hear they are just as bad. If the injen's sound good I would gladly get them bc I already have the injen ses and would like to buy as many parts from one manufacturer as I can. ALso with the resonator on if a cop looks under my car it will look like I have cats there right? Stupid azz PA laws!

Damm man, im glad this thread made it over to G35driver!! I was .01 sec's away from ordering the helix test pipes for my g35 sedan, now im clueless on what to do. Im in Ny, I really dont care about the law's and I have a year until my inspection since its only a year old. But anyway, I was planning on getting borla exhaust, crawford or kinetix plenum and helix test pipe's because of the price. I dont have the extra 150-200$ for stillen's,kinetix or any other resonated test pipe's.... Any suggestion's? Anyone know if I can get the same welded resonators installed in NY?? Thanks guys, Martin

Hmmm, I never new welding on resonators would be such a problem. If the race pipes are already on the car I don't see why a shop would hesitate in doing it considering it was on the car to begin with. All the shop is doing is cutting part of the test pipe and part of the exhaust to weld in the resonators. Neither place I went to had a problem doing the work. One shop said I would have to wait until the next day to get the resonators I wanted. The Shop I had it done at had the resonators in stock so I did it there. Like I said, it took no more than an hour and the work was outstanding. Best thing, NO MORE RASP!!. And you don't lose power

I wouldn't reconmed this because part of the exhaust has to be cut as well. There is only 6 inches of straight test pipe before it hits the exhuast. A resonator is 12 inches. Thats why both the test pipe and the exhuast must be cut. The flange has to be welded to in side of the resonator and the test pipe is welded to the other.

and that's the reason a lot of these people aren't going to go that route - I, for one, don't feel comfortable having someone cut up my brand new $1000 exhaust... but if I did, this would definitely be the cheapest fix...

It's not rocket science. It's metal and any experienced welder can do the job. I understand where you are coming from though. That's why i went to a guy that made custom exhausts. The work was top notch.

although my setup with test-pipes and headers sound raspy, it doesn't sound like a fart can civic. Try listening to the ferrari modena 360, we sound so much alike!

A modena 360 does not sound raspy whatsoever.

I haven't had the honor of hot-lapping a 360 but a lot of "uncorked" true race cars sound very similar.

A friend of mine had a problem with rasp on his 3.5 altima and he got a resonator out of a wrecked modena and his shop customized it for his car. It is an insanely big resonator and he now has no rasp. So I imagine a modena with no cats and shitty resonators would give a lot of rasp.

No the sound wont change as long as you just have testpipes.

Yes the sound will change once you have resonators on, it will sound MUCH better.
Yeah, I agree. I've been following these threads for a while and I finally got my Labree Resonated pipes installed, and they're ill. Very classy deep purr, I'm in love with it.

Are you sure, it looks like there are 2 different sized pipes welded together in the design which might possibly be a resonator?
