Lightbulb Feeler: CNC Ported Intake Manifold and Lower Plenum

Hey Everyone!

This is Dave from Altered again. Since the formal release of our fuel rail and return fuel system is complete we are looking into the production possibilities for new parts.

We are looking into precision CNC porting and polishing the factory intake manifold and possibly the lower plenum for the 350Z/G35. We would offer a core exchange program so that you can receive the new part before you take the car out of commission for the install. We would include all gaskets and instructions to make things as painless as possible.

This would be a great upgrade for NA and FI cars.

Basically we need some feedback and idea of the interest there may be in this type of product.

Thanks for the help and please feel free to post any questions.

PS-if you have any products that you would like to see please feel free to share them with us.

Thanks
Dave

I would but it since there are hardly no other companys trying to mess with it. Plus you are a repectable company so we know the product will be great and make good gains. I have a couple of friends I know that have had work done there to there Mits 3000GTs. They are stick fast, like 11's and quarter.

i like the idea, but port -n-polishing is a tough craft/science to master (and get positive gains)....

im guessing you have all the facilities to make many flow tests and such (sometimes bigger and smoother isnt better, i have learned....)

not trying to act lika smarta##, just wondering....

Plenum, like that Carbon Fiber Nismo one, in one of the recent threads by the administrator.

Thanks for your responses everyone! Pricing is not solid yet so I don't want to throw anything out there just yet. We really have not even begun development or testing. This is still in the so-called feasibility stage.

We will be performing all flow-testing and posting any number we receive (as long as they do not reveal proprietary information). Flow testing will also be backed up by a neutral third party contractor. All porting will be done with our in-house CNC.

This is a possibility, but I do not have the facilities for Carbon Firber. If there is a tremendous amount of interest I can start looking into development. We work with a gentleman that builds CF parts for IRL and Cart, but please be forewarned, its not inexpensive!

We need larger throttle bodies! Not reworked originals, but all new ones... Ported/Polished lower intake manifold would also be a good idea...

What I have seen over my almost two years of ownership is a lot of product that sounds good during the development stage, and then doesn't produce results. Port and polish is part science and part art, and while there will be adaptors that will get it just to have it, most of us want to see results.

There is so much (expensive) product out there that doesn't really do much that I personally wouldn't be interested unless I can see proven, significant results.

Now, on the Z32TT, PnP on the upper and lower manifolds had some really dramatic impact on the HP curves. Very high HP over a very wide RPM range at relativly low boost. I don't remember if it had any impact on the NA guys, but bottom line is, results will generate more interest than speculation.

Thanks for trying new stuff and good luck.

Dave, if you could provide some dyno test showing the gains of this modification, then you can attract more people. Selling a service without proof of gains is proven to be very hard in this forum as they can be pretty stubborn, picky, and careful.

Guys, I just want to make clear that this post was intended as a feeler. In other words we just wanted to see if the interest was there.

I know from experience that in FI applications this will absolutely show improvements, but NA as we all know can be much more difficult and finicky.

We will be posting numbers for this when development is complete. Both the flow bench testing and dyno numbers. The biggest benefit that we have is that everything is done in-house; both dyno testing and the CNC work. We use an outside source for flow-bench testing. All dyno numbers, even for customer’s cars are uncorrected and raw.

Right now we feel that there is enough interest to begin R&D. We need to order 4-5 of the manifolds and plenums (approx. $700 per pair) and get a base flow. Then we will move on to basic porting (very light), then flow test, then install, then dyno. Then take the parts, port again (med port), then flow test, then install, then dyno. Next, port (high/extreme), then flow test, then install, then dyno. Maybe a forth port. Effectively what we want to see is when the engine gains/loses power, where it gains/loses, and at what porting.

We need three manifolds so we can test individually with each type of application (i.e.-SC, TT, and NA) because each application reacts differently to these types of modifications. The 2 additional manifolds are so we can go back to the original and so we can have an extra just in case.

I hope this explains our dedication to creating proven, power enhancing performance products for the 350Z/G35. Thanks again and we really appreciate all the feedback. This is what allows us to serve the community better and become a better company in general.

IMO ghey if you don't improve the throttle body.
