RT Cats
Since installing them recently I have a horrific sound coming from the exhaust. The noise is at the H-pipe on the Borla. I'm not sure if the RT's have anything to do with this of it is the Borla. Most people on 350z motoring think it has to do with the RT's...What are the tell tale signs of them failing?? a lil' help???
This sound only happens at deceleration....lower RPM's....instead of hearing the gurgling, throaty sound I had with the Borla..now it's like a nasty rattling...yet everything is secure..
Without hearing it, it sounds like the R/Ts. I don't thnk the R/T's would fail when new, but they do have a nasty rasp. The signs of failing cats, are loss of power due to the plugging up of the cats, and yes, a rattling sound from the loose pieces.
However, you could also be hearing the normal pop, pop, pop sound that is always there, but not heard under deacceleration. It is muffled out by the cats and the muffler. It's caused by some of the unburned gases in the manifold igniting. As I said, that sound is normal and nothing to be worried about. Without hearing the sound you're speaking about, I can't tell you what it is.
