Default Problem with Injen CAI?

Until yesterday I have had a stock Z and would consistently run 14.2s or low 14.3s with my best being a 14.1. Yesterday I installed an Injen CAI and took it to the track today and ran my worst time ever a 14.94, trap speed was 97.8, and 60ft was a 2.54, terrible because I couldn't hook up. I don't know why I ran such a terrible time maybe I screwed something up in the install even though it was strait forward and I did disconnect the battery. Even though my 60ft was terrible even if I take .5 of of my time it brings me to a 14.44, which is still not good. Someone please tell me theres something I have to do to get this thing to work because I've been pissed all day thinking I spent $250.00 to slow my car down.

Whats was the temperature outside your first runs before the intake, and whats the temperature of the new runs. Also the ecu may have not gotten use to the new mod you have installed.

Guys help me out here.

The temp that I used to run in was colder and in the winter probably like 50, today it was about 90. But I didn't feel any difference in performance from yesterday when it was stock. I wasn't expecting a miracle bolt on but I expected to at least be able to feel a little difference. I dont know if maybe the ecu didn't reset properly and I should do the manual reset and maybe that will help but I'm sending my ecu away on wednesday to Technosquares to flash it anyways.

Most CAIs don't gain any HP, some actually lose, but not much. I heard the Injen gets dirty rather quickly and isn't in a good spot for heavy rain locations since it's pretty low.

Edit: To "feel a difference," you'll probably have to increase power by 5-10% to notice anything not based on numbers.

Go back and dyno again. I'll bet the numbers will be different by at least 4 hp. Dynos aren't very accurate (they usually claim 5%), or repeatable if you don't do the tests back to back under the same conditions.

In other words, any gains or losses less than about 15 hp (5%) that you see on dyno runs on different days could only be normal dyno variation.

Unless you installed it wrong it isn't the intake. Don't listen to all the rumors/hearsay that intakes don't gain and sometimes lose. There are numerous dynos around that show gains for the Injen Cold air, they just aren't huge gains. Just go back and check all your connections, and the position of the Maf.

Your time could be because of a lot of things. First off 90 Degress is going to kill your trap speed and a 2.5 60 ft is really bad. You should be getting a 2.1 or better. so take .8 off your 1/4 mile time and you have a 14.1.

its not gonna shave off .2 off of your 1/4mile time, so dont expect anything radical. Reset the ecu and you will be better off as well.

I know my 60ft was terrible I usually am right at 2.1 but I dont understand how taking .4 in 60ft will lower my 1/4 .8. And as far as the weather I know it sucked I can't wait to get back to college so I have good conditions. And also I am wondering how you like your test pipes 350_Z I'm thinking about getting them.

It wasn't the intake. It was a bad day at the track.

It's pretty much a rule of thumb that for every .10 off the 60ft you can take .20 off your 1/4 mile time.

I like my test pipes a lot, I gained over 2mph in the 1/4 mile by adding them. I'd suggest the ones with resonators to eliminate the rasp at 3k rpms, but other then that I'm very happy.

Do the LS pipes that you have have resonators. And do you recommend those or another brand. Thanks

350_z one more question are you running you CAI down to your grill or as a short ram. Also I have another thread about the technosquare ECU reflash asking people what they think about it. I was wondering since you have done some mods and they claim that they can get more gains out of them if you have considered doing it. I sending mine out on wednesday to get reflashed I just wanted your opinion.

No mine are just regular test pipes. They didn't have the resonators available when I bought them. The rasp doesn't bother me much at all because I've learned how to drive without getting it, but If I had it to do again I'd get the ones with resonators. Yeah I think the LSD/Kinetix pipes are the best deal and produce power.

My intake is setup as a cold air down to the grill.
I looked at the ECU flash for a while, but I'm not convinced it's worth the money yet for myself. I do like the idea of getting a higher rev limit and remove the speed limiter, but I don't really want them messing with my timing and fuel until I decide exactly what my setup is going to be.
Just my opinion, but you may want to wait until you have most of your bolt-ons before you get the ECU, that way they can set it up better for you.

The reason I'm getting it now is becaue I spoke to them and they said that any bolt-ons I do exept for a supercharger or TT will use the same mapping and when I get a TT they charge 150 to redo it.

Yeah, but every setup/engine is a little different and generic mapping won't work the same for each one. I'd rather spend $300 on an Apexi SAFC II and have it tuned to my specific setup.

I'm not trying to take away from Technosq., they are a good company and seem to have a decent product, it's just not the way I'm going at this time.
