Question Kinetix Plenum Hood Rubbing Issues

How many people that have installed the Kinetix v4 plenum are experiencing hood rubbing? If possible, please include in your message:
1. the date you installed your plenum;
2. the number of miles you put on your car since the installation; and
3. the location of the rubbing and/or any pics that you may have.

The point of this thread is not to rag on Kinetix. I am just trying to determine the extent of the problem.

Thanks,
Zman

I don't have a kinetix, but had some rubbing before. There are two bump stops in the front of the hood, give those half a twist, it will raise the hood without changing the lines of the car.

I have had the Kinetix V2, V3, V4 plenums.......the 1&2 were perfect, but both cracked. My new V4 plenum works perfect, fit is great, no cracking after a month or so......but I have this horrible rattling that I cannot isolate other than a minor rub against the strut bar. I'll have to figure out a way to test if the plenum is rubbing against the hood. It is so bad that it vibrates the interior when I take off from an idle. I don't know what to do at this point.....hoping to get some advice from kinetix. I have been gone for a while, but now I have time to address this issue.

My V4 Plenum rubs against the strut bar and causes an annoying rattle. I tried adjusting the strut bar, but cannot adjust it enough to stop the rattling. The only way I found is to remove the bar.

I will not remove the strut bar for this plenum. Maybe just get a new bar and go with Crawford??? I am also worried about that small plastic extension that is on the inside. I realize that it provides support, but I don't know if it rattles as well.....if it does, I wonder if it is at risk for fracturing little pieces off or even the whole thing. I don't know about the design of this V4 plenum, unless the internal brace is a really snug fit. But then, if it was a really snug fit, the plenum would not hav bolted up so easy (those that have V4 will know what I mean). Anyone have any other comments?

Guys if the plenum is rubbing against the strut bar this is how you can fix it very easily. Go an get 8 washers that fit over the bolts and put them between the strut bar and the mount. It will raise it up off the plenum and still fit under the hood. I did it to mine and haven't had a problem since.

ok, i have the kinetix V4 plenum ready to be installed. are all those having problems with the plenum rubbing the strut bar still using the stock strut bar? is anybody having problems with rubbing with an aftermarket strut bar? i should get my cusco STB tomorrow so i need to know what i'm looking at.

the washer and bump stop twisting ideas sound good!! have they worked for anybody other than ZU L8R and kopo?

I dont know if this is still true, but from the start, I know kinetix had said this didnt work with aftermarket strut bars, the groove was big enough for the stock strut, and no larger; as most aftermarket struts are.

they asked if the mold should accept larger struts, but they decided not to.

hm. if you have vibrations taking off from idle. it IS the strut bar. when i had my strut bar on, it was loud, noisy, obnoxious, etc. once i took it off. my car became tame again. no loud noises, vibrations, anything. and the car felt like stock.

unfortunately, my plenum is coming off tomorrow to be returned to kinetix. i will get my refund and go with crawford.

I have a couple of points I want to clear.
1-When I first installed the V4, it was rubbing the strut bar. This problem was easily dealt with by adjusting the strutbar. It cleared it well.
2-The other rubbing, is the rubbing of the engine cover with the hood. Not a big deal though. Coz I only noticed it when I had the bonnet opened and seen a chipped paint of my painted engine cover. I did not hear any rattling with that though.

Thanks

i cant raise my strut bar with the kaminari as it hits the hood already and so does the plenum...im hoping the bump stops will
raise up enough to stop the rubbing

neways. took mine off today. make sure if u take it off, not to pull off the stock gasket with it bc i did and i bent it like hell.

tony-- i called the parts dept and asked for a new one and they asked for my vin and i got skeptical. lol, hopefully nothing is on my record. the guy soudned confused to why i needed a new one for such a new car. and he was wondering why the part was only 3 dollars.

We are comparing the V4 plenums, with the height of the older versions, because it should not have changed.

True, you can gain good clearance by adjusting the strut bar.

The rattling most likely means it is rubbing the strut bar.

It is not the internal support rattling.

That support actually sits on a section of the lower plenum that is about 1/32" taller , so it keeps the center post snug.

they always ask for the vin no matter what part or car it is....with the vin number its almost imposible to have the wrong part....
