For those interested: Pics of my "Custom" Intake and review
A few people (Cough Cough
) Have requested pics of my Intake system, so here they are....Sorry for the delay.
I believed the construction of the JWT (Which I had first) wasnt the best (The aluminum all over the filter element specifically), and heat soaked easily and quickly,...I also found that the heat shield did little to nothing, so I removed that as well.
Third and foremost, I wanted a filter that would sit Closer to the stock cool air inlet. I have noticed a BIT more "ooooomph" with my setup than with the JWT, and after driving around all day in SOCAL, the filter remains cool to the touch. I used a $12 adaptor (RTEC) found on Ebay. The Quality is Good, and fitment is perfect.
on a side note, I saved about 3 lbs going this route over the JWT. big deal

2. the length of the filter I decided on, turned out to be ALITTLE longer than I expected, which actually turned out to be a good thing. But, I had to remove the Stock air inlet in order for it to fit.

Cough Thanks AceJ. I'll post pictures of our "custom" intake when we finish it. We're about to order the parts. Thanks again Cough
EDIT: Oh, we're getting a great price on a K&N filter but it doesnt have a funnel on the end of it. Do you really think the funnel is necessary?

lol...I dont think its TOTALLY necessary, however its the first part of the filter that "sees" the cool air coming from the inlet. Would only make sense to have some more "filter" there to Suck it.
Roark, thanks for the compliment. The bracket is JWT.
HMMMM. it just occurred to me, I posted this damn thread in the wrong forum.lol

So now, we decided to strap on a K&N Filter on there to see if any difference in the Dyno... 10min later she is getting pulled and 7.5whp

Ive done my research, and anyone who truly has any knowledge in this area would conclude the same as I did... The JWT filter is garbage. this setup will not only show more gains, but is beneficial to the longevity of the engine as well.
Just to avoid More PM's with the same question........
If you're planning on doing this mod, you can't because I said so.
j/k.....If you're planning on using the K&N I used:
I used the K&N cone (X-Stream Top) Part # RX4730
(Keep in mind, with This filter, you will need to remove your stock air inlet..)
If you wish to keep the inlet: K&N Part#RX4990 is what you'll need. Same filter, but about 1.2" shorter.
